I've been called a hipster on plenty of occasions, but it really depends on who you talk to and what your definition of the word is (i.e. my taste in music is varied and downright obscure at times, I stay away from "fashion" mostly out of lack of funds and practicality, etc.). Not being self-loathing, I don't dislike hipsters.

Well I think it all about attitude, I have a lot of easing going friends, who will listen to whatever they enjoy musically and generally wear whatever's comfortable, never openly trying to draw attention to themselves. They're cool and definitely "Indie", these people are fun to hang out with.

But I also know a lot of people (main arts students) who try to go out of their way to be seen as "alternative" and will immediately jump ship on a band if it goes mainstream, who dress in ridiculous coloured clothing on purpose and wear items like scarves, mass produced ironic t-shirts or fedoras (if it's not with a suit, you shouldn't wear one). Who will say a random movie is their favourite simply because no one has seen, rather than actually enjoying it. These people are loud and annoying and will constantly try to explain why they are so "indie".

At the end of the day its like being seen as "cool", it's the people who don't have to draw attention to themselves to appear cool that are the coolest. The same with "indie" people.

Yes, they get pretty annoying. When you're in LA you'll see them a lot. Be prepared.

Sometimes I worry that I'M a hipster. But then I realize that I wear normal clothes and listen to music that a fair amount of people like.

So a Hipster is a Douche who thinks they are a unique person when in reality they are a generic douche that just seems to be over powering the community
So basically, a hipster is every single person who has ever lived?

No. Not everyone is a douche. More like 85% of the populous lol. I would say if you Hang out at Starbucks and Blog about how awesome stuff you do is your a douchey hipster. Or at least thats how i see it.
Of course, no one here thinks they're a douche who pretends to be superior to everyone else.

But in all seriousness, if you find yourself getting irrationally angry at a group of people that's not doing anything to you except dressing in a distinctive way, the problem likely doesn't lie with them.

Do you like them or hate them? I love their music but their attitude gets on my last nerve. I had a little tiff with my RA who is a hipster and wondered what your opinions are on this group of douche bags people?
Sorry, but what the fuck is a hipster?

I Don't judge a person by their looks but by their actions. A Person who says they don't care about anything all the while spending more then 50 Dollars on Jeans is a douche and should stop thinking they are unique.
There are no decent jeans that cost less than $50 a pair. Trufax.

And as far as I know, the hipster subculture is not based on not caring about anything (and I would know, I attended an expensive liberal arts school for college). Hipsters care deeply about microbrews, local bands, Jonathan Safran Foer, American Apparel, and the word "hella." GIT YER FACTS STRAIT.

Hipsters are just the worst. They're worse than any other social group in my opinion. They act like they're intelligent, in the loop, and unique, but really they're just uninformed annoyances who cave into the latest fad faster than you can say "conform".

Man i have never spent more then $40 on a pair of jeans. I must be retarded lol. Also I went completely by that video in here earlier.
It's easier if you're a guy, but in general if you want a pair of jeans that's going to fit well, not stretch, and last more than a year, you've got to spend up. Nothing wrong with paying for quality.

I guess I embody some hipster traits, as I do enjoy microbrews as long as they don't taste like crap. I also have a shirt with an 8-bit tank on it. Oh the horror!

What I find funny is that the freshly immigrated asians at my university dress the exact same way as these hipsters. If you're asian and dress like that, you're being a FOB (fresh off the boat). If you're not, you're hipster. Just seems like a sort of double-standard, although both groups are looked down upon by other groups. That could be said for any group ever, though.

My jeans cost $50 Canadian, which is about $40 USD. They're good quality, last forever, fit well, and feel nice. If you really want to know, they're Calvin Klein. You can get nice jeans for that price. I couldn't justify spending more than around $70 on a pair. I heard someone I know spent $700 on a pair once...
