Poll: History Channel?

I only bother to watch the history channel when they air 'Enemies at the Gate', which always seems to be around Christmas

Yes mostly because they barely play anything to do with history. I used to watch Modern Marvels, the one show about the guy cutting stuff into, and Top Shot, but now they only play 2012/Nostradamus apocalypse theories or Ice Road Truckers. And they don't have many shows about Hitler anymore!

I'd agree that it's going down hill. Most of the shows are taking the "history is happening now" BS that they used to justify Ice Road truckers and that logging one. Every now I'll catch a show about ancient history or medieval battles that I'll watch, but I have no interest in 90% of the shows now days.

Yes.
Now they usually only have shows were people are talking about aliens, the apocalypse, or WWII/Nazis. And when those shows aren't on(quite rare), they have their recurring shows that often have very little to do with history.

I like some of the newer shows like Pawn Stars and American Pickers because I get to see all sorts of cool things but at the same time I want to kill whoever thought that Ax Men and Ice Road Truckers was a good idea.

Now I'm a big fan of cryptology mostly because it is cool to think about Bigfoot and all that shit, (I'm pretty sold on Bigfoot myself, I live in Washington what do you expect) but I don't want to hear about how some guy got lucky a thousand years ago and predicted a few things right that also correlated to the Mayan calendar, I mean for fucks sake for every one guy who predicts something that lined up with something else someone on the other side of the world predicted, there are hundreds of people who were wrong so what makes this Nostradamus shit any more likely to happen.

Also I want Warriors with Terry Schappert back that show was cool.

Going down hill? History International is going down hill; the regular History channel is already most of the way down. I remember when the history channel was actually about history, but for quite a while now the lineup has mostly been made up of shows looking at the "truth" behind the mythology of various movies, like the Indiana Jones films, National Treasure, and 300. I'd say it's 60% that stuff, 30% reality shows ala Ice Road Truckers, and 10% actual history. For the most part, I blame The Davinci Code, although National Treasure probably played a large role as well; once the executives saw what these "historical" looks at fiction did to the ratings, there was no turning back.

The only thing I remember about the History Channel is that my college history professors would call it the "Hitler Channel" because of how often WW2 stuff was shown. I always thought that was funny.

As for the topic at hand... I have no idea. I have not watched that channel, or any TV really, in years. But, if the rest of the world is an indication, it probably is going downhill of some level.

What the hell has Iceroad Truckers or Ax Men got to do with History? It seems like THC is going downhill. It does have quite a few good programs though.

Ohhh yeah. They very rarely do actual history stuff now, its mostly just 2012 or alien conspiracies mixed in with a few shows about blue collared workers who do 'dangerous' jobs. In quite honestly, I wished they would play reruns of their America special again. I missed most of the episodes and I wouldn't mind watching the ones I already saw again.

I used to watch the History Channel. Until WW1 and WW2 constantly appeared. Then i stopped watching it again. I got enough of that in school
