So, it's a new semester and a new season of Fall and Winter releases. This time of the year is ripe for excitement, speculation and reading every blog post, tweet or article about the features of the games we're most looking forward to.

But for those of us on a student's budget, it often means we need to make compromises in the new releases we buy. I set up a few pre-orders myself the other day, and it breaks my heart, but in order for me to play everything I want this year, I'll have to trade in some of my old games.

I hate the idea of taking games out of my collection even if they were shitty and odds are I'll never play them again. So what about you, Escapists? How do you feel about trading in your video games?

I don't do it. Not for any particular fondness of having a collection, but because I don't want to encourage Gamestop. I'll trade games with individuals, but Gamestop can die in a fire.

I never bother because I don't have any of the worthwhile titles to trade in. Even if Gamestop would accept the games I own for trade-ins, I'd get jack-shit for it, so I don't even bother.

i use to trade alot just to buy new games but looking at what i got left i got little to no gaming history except for my snes games which hasnt grown since 1997 but that collection as nothing impressive among them!! so recently i joined the horders and now i dont trade my games in no more as i have a job and can afford to buy games without trading any of them in!!!

I've never traded in a game, and I doubt I ever will. What if I suddenly decide I want to play one of them again only to find out it was one I traded in? Besides, I'm extremely careful with what games I buy, so I don't often end up disappointed. At least not disappointed enough to warrant getting rid of the game.

Only trading with other people. Just a few weeks ago, I traded ODST for Borderlands. Not a bad deal, given that I'd finished everything on ODST some time ago.

Eh, I'm on the PC. I don't get the option of trading.

Besides, I get most of my games off Steam these days.

I don't have any desire for a big collection though. I've cheerfully thrown game discs in the bin before and I wouldn't mind deleting the shitty stuff from my Steam library if I could.

I only keep stuff that is really good or that I might replay in the future.

I prefer to keep my games forever, heck I have games that I can't even run without jumping through virtualization hoops. And I wouldn't trade-in because by the time I lose interest in a game it costs me more money in gas to drive to the store than I would get for the games(if they would even take them).

I'm a hoarder. I hoard like a crazy f***er. Not really though, I just don't like trading in games (I have a habit of always wanting to play games I've lost/lent). The only time I remember trading in games was when we went from a N64 to a PS2, but why keep games for a console you no longer own[footnote]It's a rhetorical question! I forbid you [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/profiles/view] from answering![/footnote]?

I keep them for that one in a million chance that I'll decide to replay the game in two years if they were shitty, and the more likely chance that I'll replay them in two months if they were good.
The only game I traded in was CoD3 (piece of crap), and I will admit that the only thing keeping Blops in my draw is that my brother sometimes plays the multiplayer, though he's gotten back into MW2 lately.

I have games that I keep and some that I trade in, some that I've played I really won't want to play again and were good for one go through but I don't have room for as big collection as I would like.

No, I don't see the point of trading games. If the game is good, why get rid of it? Also it seems wasteful to constantly purchase games then trade them in for others for a fraction of it's original value, you might as well just buy the games that are actually good rather than waste your money on mediocrity.

I exclusively play PC games, and 90% of my collection is on Steam. As for the few retail games I own, I might wanna play them again some day! So nope, no trade ins for me!

I've got this thing where I tend to play through my games in cycles. I'll be big on one title for a few weeks, the move on to something else. So I tend to keep most of my games because I know that even if I'm not playing it RIGHT NOW...I will eventually.

And on the rare occasion I lose interest entirely, I just give them away. *shrugs*

4 words...

I'm a pack rat.

I love my hoard of goodies and hate getting rid of things I see as having potential use in the future.

I don't feel I'd get anywhere near the worth for my games if I traded them in. On top of that, it's not in my nature to have things come & go like that. I keep everything. Luckily I'm discerning enough that every game I choose to buy is worth keeping.
