For fuck sakes people, LEARN THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN "Newb" and "Noob"!

"Newb" is short for "newbie". As it implies, a "newbie" is new to a game and willing to learn. They should be treated with respect and nurtured, not bullied by the "Pros".

"Noob", or more commonly, "n00b", is a corruption of the above, originating during the days of text-based online chat. A "n00b" is an asshole, usually also new to the game, but they refuse to learn. "n00b" now covers any asshole, from Griefers to Pros that insult Newbs.

n00bs should die. Newbs should not.

DO YOU ALL UNDERSTAND NOW?

Sorry forgot, I was just kinda ragin'

People tend to let their overwhelming hatred of Tim Buckley color their opinion of anything he says, even the stuff not related to Ctrl-Alt-Delete's story.

Or they haven't heard of it and are just following what they see general internet usage to be.

And this is coming from someone who agreed to help a newbie out in WoW for a "mission" and didn't even run when it turned out to be in the Deadmines.

While I said all new players should get a chance to learn, I also see the other side.

Primarily being a noob at most games myself, I have also been the... how you say... 1337 p14y3r?

It really takes a lot of patience and self-discipline to tutor a new player and not just run back to your own thing.

It can be even more frustrating when the said 'n00b' becomes detrimental to the outcome of your game.

Just due to the fact that you could spend your entire life teaching new players how to play a game, most people try to ignore them, or if they become a problem, try to remove them from the game.

The Newbies to Modern Warfare 2 multiplayer are rather amusing, seeing as I was one myself only a month ago (yes I never played COD4 online).
They are easy to kill indeed, but I always feel a slight twing of guilt in the back of my head, especially when I'm killing a girl player...
Good luck fellow newbies! I hope you get through those annyoing deaths at the beginning and enjoy the game as time goes on =D

Day Of The Antelope?

Heroes of Neptune?

I have no idea. I am however grateful to 'Pyromaniac' for explaining the difference between newb and n00b, which I had never come across before. I am also mildly amused by how peeved he appeared to be over their misuse :)

What he said, pretty much. Being new is forgivable, not even trying isn't.

What is HoN and DOTA?

Still, if people are being pricks, I single them out, and kill them, and kill them, and kill them, until my griefing quota is filled.

Any asshole who makes a game titled "Newbs only" and then boots you for being a newb is a complete n00b.

People used to do that in Starcraft, but you could just look at their stats and be like....you have 12000 wins and 7 losses...
And then leave.

Actually it's people like that who are the reason I don't play online much anymore.

Well the only time I get ticked on some one of a newb, is if, they are on ANY valve game, and don't know how to mute people in voice chat EVEN THOUGH they have been playing for at least a year.

What about nubs
Nubs are like Pubs but for Narwhals. N-pubs for short, but recently abbreviated to Nubs to save time.

I <3 newbies, nice ones anyway, I enjoy talking to people not very good at games as you see things from odder view points than "Pro's" as a lot of "pro's" use the same tactics, recycled.

DotA = Defenders of the Ancients
HoN = Heroes or Newerth

They are both heavy modifications to the Warcraft 3 engine.
They were designed for people too lazy to make buildings or manage units so you just run around as a hero class killing other hero classes.

"wait a sec that sounds just like WoW"

It is. It's 3rd person top-down camera of wow.

P.S. I have never played either game.

If someone's new and tells you that, they should be given a chance.
If someone's been playing the game long enough to have a rank higher than yours and they're shit, they should be told that.

But no-one should be berated for being bad at a game, well, not to the point you were at least.

I hate people who are clearly not ready for expert mode on L4D. I took the time to practice on lower difficulties and become a team player, the least they can do is listen to instructions instead of charging ahead and getting killed, or wasting pipe bombs and Molotovs.

What's great is playing L4D2 on expert and dropping a molotov when everybody gets in an elevator or on a boat. So much rage.

When I played WoW there were 2 kinds of newbs, the one's I'd give advice to and they'd take it, and then there were the lvl 80's that SHOULD know something about their class by then and when helpful advice is givin to them they shut you down.
(NO! there is NO excuse for a lvl 80 MUTILATION Rogue to be using MACES!!!!)

Sometimes they honestly deserve it...

You're such a NOOB!
:D
Don't know what HoN is but apparantly it's like Defense of the Ancients, some custom made Warcraft 3 game where you're a hero, that is similar to the ones in Warcraft 3. There are two teams, both with a base and an (AI) army, once team good destroys team evil's base they win and vice versa.

Newbs get me all broody; I end up taking them under my wing. However, I realise I'd be a terrible parent, in that said newb often ends up being crushed under aforementioned wing.
