When you talk about playing multiplayer on games like Gears2 and CoD: WaW a lot of the time you will be told that the only multiplayer anyone plays on these games is the horde mode (or in the case of CoD:WaW, Nazi Zombies). My questions is do you think horde based multiplayer is the way of the future for multiplayer?

I personally think it's a great addition to multiplayer. Nine times out of ten I would much rather place the horde varity of multiplayer then the standard kind. I just like the team work that goes with it.

So lets hear what you think.

P.S. Sorry if my formatting is bad, not exactly the greatest typist.

It's the new kid in school everyone likes him/her now but after awhile they'll just become apart of the class of 09 it'll likely be continuesd to be used but not become the only option hopefully.

Horde (Nazi Zombies) is great fun, but I don't think it's going to replace 'traditional' multiplayer, no. It's fun to team up against the AI, but there's a certain challenge and experience in fighting against other people that you just don't get that way. Plus, Horde in any case can take a very long time to complete (maybe like two hours or so if you make it to the last wave), so that's another reason why it's not for everybody.
I do hope that because of its popularity Horde-like modes will be included in a lot more games in the future though, in addition to the normal multiplayer modes.

It seems everyones beginning to use it, GOW2, COD:WaW, Resistance 2 and now L4D.
Its a new concept thats popular, its no doubt that people are going to utilize it, but to what extent?
Personally I'll stick with my Mechwarrior survival mode, that was the first time I ever played a Co-Op horde Esq game.

I dont do team work.
At school my report card read:

C- Does not play well with others.

Didnt Rainbow 6 do this first with the terrorist hunt?

GoW seems to take credit for everything...

It's a good addition, and nice for a change, but I wouldn't go so far as to say it's the 'future' of multiplayer.

Now I don't know about that. With real live teammates, at least they don't shoot you in the back steal all your ammo and health get in the way require you to babysit them constantly at least you can fucking yell at them.
Damn Left 4 Dead players *shakes fist*

Its good in thw "lets be buddies for a bit and relax" way, but competition will always dominate.

No, so far only Left 4 Dead, Cod:WaW and Gears have done horde style gameplay. Since they're all from consistenly good series/developers it follows the gameplay would be good.
Unfortunately, that means we already have 3 excellent fight off the horde multiplayer games. Any games that come out now will just be copying one of those 3 and they won't do it as well.

It'll probably spring up in a lot of shooters coming this year, but like VIP/bomb disposal/territory control none of them will do it particularly well, we'll all get bored of it and go back to the games that do it properly.

It's the current gametype fad, we'll soon be back to deathmatch, CTF and team deathmatch.

Yeah, especially since L4D came out with the idea -way- before it. =|

Not sure about "first" but you could at least get away with "a decade ago".

But they didn't come in waves, they were all in from the start for you to kill, set up your plan how you want to, select a team full of assualt goons with M249 SAWs, etc., etc....

But UT2004 definitely did it back in... oooh... 2004 perhaps?

Playing Co-op split-screen with your friends is the most fun you can have... But PvP is fun to.

Get your facts straight, "horde" has been around for a while. Off the top of my head Rainbow Six Vegas had Terrorist Hunt, someone mentioned MechWarrior.

Gears of War 2 is just the first huge name game to really brag about it.
