I've rode a horse a couple of times when I was younger, and I was surprisingly non-sucky at it.

I wouldn't trust myself to be able to ride one now though.

I had riding lessons for half a year or so. Loved it, and I wasn't too bad at it. The riding instructor said I was ready to start learning jumping, but that would have meant taking a different class from my sisters (i.e. Mum would've had to make two trips to the riding school per week instead of one) so Mum nixed the idea. Then the riding school closed down. All the other riding schools in the district were too far from home or too expensive, so no more lessons. There were unhappy children in our family that year...

Yeah, I can ride them. I have little experience riding them but I've done it before so...yeah. (Was that redundant? Was that repetitive?...didn't mean for it to be, it just happened and I found it amusing so I'll leave it that way.)

You would be surprised at how little they actually cost. Buildings and land are by far the most expensive things you need.

I have four horses, but very, very rarely do I ride any of them. Two of them are not exactly over the hill or anything for a horse, but getting on in years. Most of the time it's the current girlfriend that just has to ride a horse. So I get shoes, groom a couple all up. Saddle them and then she quits never to ride again after 30 minutes.

Ahh cool, I have some friends who went on a school trip to Iceland and rode the Icelandic horses, they really enjoyed it. They're really cute too :)

Not sure if it would be easy to find one to ride in Britain though :\

Also; I know it's a silly question, but are horses kinda the same as bikes? Where you have to have one the proper size for you to be able to control it and be comfortable on it? 'Cos I'm a pretty tall guy, and as you said Icelandic horses seem to be fairly small.
As long as the saddle and stirrups are properly adjusted there should be no problems.
I am a little tall myself, and I've never had problems with sitting comfortably.

As for finding one in Britain: Wikipedia says sizable populations exist in Europe and North America.

I have a fair amount of land, but some people on my road have them, and if I asked they would let me ride them, so I never really felt any desire to own one.

I did a weekend event at a stables back when I was 12ish and really liked it. I was skeptacle however as it seems quite a female orientated sport...and I was the only boy out of about 20 girls. And I was slightly bullied after beating some riders who'd been there for months, despite my day of experience.

Rather a bike. First because it's faster and generally more efficient, second because I don't have to subject another animal to carry me on their backs like they have nothing better to do with their lives, third because if things go wrong it's a piece of metal that goes to the junkyard, not a life that goes 6 ft under, and lastly, I like metal and machinery... Cold, tough, unemotional and efficient. I like that.

I've ridden ponies at circuses and the like. And I once rode a horse but it was really bloody scary. The muscles that move beneath you are surprisingly strong. Also it wasn't steady at all and I was so far from the ground. I'm going to stick to riding things that don't have a mind of their own.

CAN I ride a horse? Possibly.

Have I, do I know how?

...You sit on top and hold on, right?

I think I could ride a horse, I know the commands. I rode a pony at my friends 11th birthday party, the instructor told me to bring it to a trot, that was easy. I might be over-confident, though. It's been a while.

Reigns = brakes and steering
Squeeze its sides with your heels = accelerator

However, a horse is a living creature and should be treated as such. I suppose each horse is a little different in their sensitivity to commands. You have to move with the rhythm of the horse and be sensitive to how it reacts to things.

Also, getting on might be a bit difficult, depending on its size.

Yeah, actually I used to show them a couple years back.

But the better I got the more difficult batshit crazy the horses were. I did fine, but I hated it.

The new ones are impossible to control, I was always bucked off or getting kicked. Eventually I just quit, it got to the point where I was just scared shitless and didn't want to ride. I didn't like using a crop or spurs, anyway. Seemed cruel.

I can ride horses- I used to do it a lot as a kid, but not really anymore. Still, I was pretty good at it and it's not a skill you forget easily.

I rode horses for about 7 years. I used to enter showjumping competitions and everything haha!

Alas I gave it up because my family is way too poor for that shit. I do enjoy riding every now and then though!

Did it a bit, surprisingly I never had much interest in it despite horses outnumbering people in my village and being freaking everywhere and they poop everywhere as well!
