My name's Crispin which I find is very rare. I can think of two people who are also called Crispin who aren't the saint or a children's book character and that is the Prisons Minister for the UK Crispin Blunt and some BBC reporter.

There's a Crispin on one episode of Doctor Who, he appears briefly before his existence is erased.


OP: I chose common, I've only met a few Leannes in my time and only one who spells it the same way I do but overall I'd say it's common enough.

My name, Forrest, is ranked somewhere around 800 in the US. So it's rare, I only know of one other Forrest, and he goes by Frosty, probably to avoid the millions of Forrest Gump jokes.

The downside to my name is that after the movie Forrest Gump came out, everyone associates my name with Forrest Gump. Even in high school, which I just finished a few months ago, I still had people who, who repeatedly would ask me where's Bubba. I can understand some one making one or two Forrest Gump jokes, but it seems some people will never let it go. Which is why I will never name my children after me.[/long and probably unnecessary rant]

Well, here in Sweden my name is beyond common. It seems you can't take two steps without running into some bloke who's got the name, or at least a variation of it.

I refer of course to the name... Karl.

My name is Kartik, which is a fairly common Indian name (mostly north India, I'm told) I haven't seen it too often in the States, but find an Indian community and you're bound to find at least one. Spelled either Kartik (Northern) or Karthik. (Southern)

I said "Very Rare" because almost everyone I meet will think my name (Anya) is another spelling/way-to-pronounce "Aine" or "Enya". Hell, I've even had "Onion" before. In fact, a friend of mine's mum's name is "Anja", the Finnish/German variation of my Russian name, gets mistaken just the same. Yes, she's even had "onion" as well, the actual feck.
What annoys me the most about it though is that I've actually had a couple of occasions where, after I correct the person for calling me "Aine", they repeat it. As if to correct me. God.

You'd think by living on the island of Ireland people would actually be able to realise that the Russian name "Anya" is NOT the same as the Irish "Aine" or "Enya". I've even had teachers before reading my name off the role and saying, "Enya".

However, if I ever move to any of the countries within the Nordic regions, I'd be turning my head at every corner!

EDIT: Actually, that reminds me: Two of my friends, while I was with them, were texting another friend on their touch phones, named me saying how I was with them, and the stupid things autocorrected it to "anus". Welp. There's my ego out the window.

Really? What about Fionnula Flanagan (my namesake btw), or Fionnuala Sweeney who hosted ESC in 93? I suppose they're not all that famous, but Flanagan played Data's mother in STNG! That counts for something right? She also played a Vulcan in STE, but I don't know what they were thinking; a Vulcan with an Irish accent?

I've met a handful of Fionnulas, only in Ireland though and even here its' not terribly common. Fiona would be way more common.
