In Australia, we have 2 dollar coins aswell as one dollar, and they work very well. Notes are for larger purchases and coins are for vending machines/train tickets/throwing at the homeless etc.

Also, I don't know about everywhere else in the world, but my jeans have a mini change pocket within the larger front right pocket. If I knew how to imbed pictures I'd show you, but with them I've never had to worry about where my change went.

Personally as an American, I have no problem with them. Yeah our dollar bills fit better in my wallet but if we moved to more change than dollars I'd just get pants with bigger pockets. Money is money no matter what. Besides the fact lately I've been using up a lot of the change I've been hoarding in my room so......but then I'm also kind of mean and enjoy making people count change. *shrugs*

Money is money. Don't give a shit, a dollar in coins is still a dollar. A dollar in pennies, is still a dollar.

Actually, I was just talking to my husband about this the other day. He was given a dollar-coin when he was out-and-about and he set it on the table while I was drinking my tea and reading the paper. We stared at it like it was an alien life form. I picked it up cautiously, turned it around, and was pretty happy about it for some weird reason. lol Also, I've always liked coins better then paper money, even though I still use it.

Then again, I only carry a bank card, my I.D., my Zoo Pass, two twenties, and a dollar in quarters, and chapstick in my purse. Well technically it's all in a clutch-bag, that is IN my purse. (BAGCEPTION!) So it wouldn't really be a bother to carry some coins around with me. Really, if given the option, that's probably all I'd end up using.

So, sure, I'd use them if they were more commonplace. (I mean, I'm not pleading for them, but I'd use them). Seems fairly convenient actually. Probably will use one if I ever get my hands on another, but so far, no luck.

I miss NZ and Australian coins being interchangable, despite differences in their actual value. :(

Yes, changing US coins would be a bigger issue than changing NZ coins, due to the nation being bigger, but the nation can afford to throw more resources at it for the same reason.
