The colors look nice. Seriously, the basic blue contrasting with gold and orange and some white to make it feel lighter and more open.

I go for a bit of "they show my personality, they show what I've accomplished, and they are cool". And I change them around sometimes, depending on badges I've earned or sometimes the mood I'm in. But I definitely keep the ones that I've accomplished/status near the top of the list. Also the cool ones / the show my personality.

I choose by what they represent/comedic value.

"Starring Mike Patton" because Mike Patton is my musical idol.
"Don't Blink" because I love Doctor Who.
"Master of Blinking" because its funny, and at the time it was the highest Unskippable badge.
"Sweet hat!" because its funny and I felt I should have something Yahtzee related since he brought me to the site.
