Simple enough: How do you feel about the internet group known as "Anonymous" and their actions?

This isn't really a Black and White scenario here. They are part good part bad. They seem incredibly pretentious, but the good they do outweighs that. Plus, they're kinda funny to watch.

Anonymous haven't really done anything wrong in my book. Besides, it's difficult to blame Anonymous as a whole for anything, because it is exactly that: anonymous. Anyone and everyone could be a part of the group, or no one could, if that makes sense.

Considering how Anon isn't just a single person, but essentially an entity, you can't classify them as just good or bad. There's parts that are good, and there's parts that are assholes. They're not really able to be classified.

Edit: Awesome coincidence, captcha was 4chan ieallago

As far as organization go theyve done an equal ammount of good stuff and bad stuff (to my knowledge) which pretty much leaves me in a position where I thank them for the good theyve done - now would they please be so kind and GTFO already...

I hate them and what they stand for, but thankfully they're easy enough to just ignore so it doesn't annoy me much.

I enjoy watching them take down these big groups that think they're above everyone else. I especially had a laugh when they got WBC

Oh, wow...

I guess this forum is very evenly spread when it comes to Anonymous.

They're pretty cool. (Good)
33.3% (6)

They're criminals! (Bad)
33.3% (6)

I don't care.
33.3% (6)

So far they haven't really done much I disagree with, and I agree with their ideals at least, so I decided to go with pretty cool. Someone needs to stand up for consumer rights and internet freedoms, yet as far as I can tell no-one but Anonymous actually is. I'm not sure if their methods will actually end up helping their cause, but at least they're trying.

I think anonymous is a pretty cool guy; eh makes memes and doesn't afraid of anything.[/trolling]

Alright, in all seriousness, they're a bunch of nerds hanging out on the internet. The only thing separating The Escapist from 4Chan is the moderation -- aside from a few taboo subjects on this end, both sites discuss a lot of the same subjects, and have a lot of the same userbase. The "hacking" they do involves DDOS attacks, and while it can be annoying, it's an order of magnitude removed from the kind of stuff the Sony hackers pulled off. They're neither the great evil or the great good that people make them out to be.

I cant really bring myself to like them. I (kinda) like the idea they stand for, but I dont like the group. Anytime I hear the name, all i can think of is they mused about shutting down the iranian government's tech so the people could rebel, which would have resulted in hundred or thousands of civilian massacred deaths that would onyl really accomplish giving the west a reason to walk into Iran and take over.

I like them.

They give another colour to the whole painting.
And every good painting needs some controversy.

EDIT: I answered *I don't care* because the other options don't work for me.

As long as they don't hack xbox Live, or sell military data to terrorists or something, I'll be fine with them. But an entity without leadership is like a world without God: there aren't as many good jokes.

I have no opinion on them.

I just know, you leave them alone, they will leave you alone.

I picture Lulzsec to be basically the Internet's Joker with the whole chaotic stance they take (like attacking the FBI and Nintendo for no reason at all), and AnonOps lately has been more like Batman.

Both cool and bad, depending on there current situation. I would put them under chaotic neutral myself.

I think that they're pointless, and irritating attention whores. I don't think they're bad for criminality, just for basic pointlessness

Any group so far without organization has had fringe groups of people who don't know what they are doing. Anon has still done more good than those fringe groups have done bad.

The problem with Anonymous is also one of their main advantages, no real structure.

This means that while they avoid all of the issues of having hierarchy in a technically illegal group (and the resulting power struggles, splinter groups etc etc) it also results in them lacking a real direction or credability.

I think anon is like every loosly organised group:
10-15 % are the hardcore people, with really high ideals, who belive in what they are doing.
The other 85-90% are just dicks, who want to troll and are just in for the lolz.

And not to forget a large percentage of people just prtending to "be" anonymous, to impress or threaten people.

But even so, i like them and i would give em money to support them.
