Potentially very dangerous. When people think they can get away with shit without personal consequences, morality goes out the window. See any riot ever.

they're an amalgam of attention-seeking basement nerds who think that hacking websites to express their ill-conceived beliefs makes them cool and important

I'm glad Anonymous is around. At least they don't seem to be the hacker types that create better spam robots, steal credit cards and email addresses or take over websites to turn them into advertising shit-holes.
True that anyone could be in Anonymous, and they're not always on the same page, but I think that's a small price to pay for the greater good that Anonymous can stand for.

This really isn't a "pretty cool"/"criminals situation. Technically they are criminals whether you think they are cool or not. Also as far as I know they are a collective of autonomous individuals and sub groups.

As for what I think, I was pretty fucked off about PSN and disagree with the degree to which some members have pursued people. On the other hand they do some good and lot of stuff I am undecided about.

I enjoy at very least the fact that they exist, as it is interesting to essentially have a real vigilante force at work in the world.
And while their methods are occasionally questionable, I think it is great that we have someone standing up for the ideals they uphold.

We'll since Anonymous can be anyone, I suppose you can't know the answer to that question. Yes, they hack alot of things, but that only makes up a small group of individuals. The rest of anonymous is everyone else.

I'm completely neutral on the topic on Anonymous, I judge them purely on a case by case basis.

Their cool when they attack the WBC. It gives me this awesome yet hilarious image of some Spec Ops taking on Satan's demons. I'm not sure why.

So long as XBL is online I don't care about what they do.

Anonymous may have good ideals, but they're still essentially a terrorist organization. Even if you're not killing people, causing mayhem for the purpose of furthering the strength of your ideals is wrong. They should figure out another way to do their business.

Douchebags.

And to avoid moderator wrath the reason for view is that to me breaking the law to achieve a point is still breaking the law regardless of how grand or more often petty your ideals are.
Those who don't follow the rules are traitors. Those who don't follow their ideals are not even human.

many people in history have broken the law so that they may bring the light of their ideals to the world and its people. The founding fathers of the US bore arms against the British so that they may have independance. They broke the law so that they could have freedom from the English.

Gandhi on many accounts broke the law because he spoke out when the British didn't want him to, and he was imprisoned numerous times. However he fought the British with Non-Violence, and it was merely the British who were fighting themselves. Gandhi finally won the fight and India/Pakistan won its independance.

When you say that we can't fight for our ideals we may as well lay down, and die face down in the dirt, and allow everyone to walk all over us like we are trash. Ideals are what got us here to begin with, and most of those ideals involved breaking the law. What Anon does, sure it may not be agreeable to most, but that is because it is an Ideal, and no one agrees with it until it finally comes to light.

I don't care if you agree with Anon or not, but don't you fucking dare say that we can't fight for our ideals if it means going against the law.
Agreed, if we followed every law unquestioningly there would never be any progress, we would never have achieved the (more-or-less) equal rights we Americans hold so highly. Not every law is right simply by definition, and when those laws are created by corporations in sole pursuit of our money (as are so many of the laws Anon opposes) you can bet your ass they are not in our best interests.

They have never done anything to bother me, and I find myself in agreement with most of their ideals. So yeah, I like them.

I used to think they where just funny, ok that was clever that was annoying etc. I enjoyed the lulz a little. Then they started wanting to make huge political statements and I said ok well I can support some of their actions as just. Then they started doing hypocritical things with freedom of information and internet as the cornerstone of their agenda and yet they where denying that right to companies, organizations, and media. There has to be a better way besides defacing property.

I read about the attack on a lawyer firm in Australia where they sent in 1 cent donations to the firm and each transaction cost the company something like 5 cents. Genius.

I realize these vicious attacks aren't characteristic of the whole group but thats another problem. They can't control or stop themselves without it being called in fighting and more than likely destroying the whole group. You don't need to have an authoritarian group in the lead to have leadership.

Anonopps does some good but because anyone can claim to be part of anonymous, a lot of the people on 4chan who sexually harass little girls (not saying all 4chan does that but some definitely do) can be viewed as anon too and I do not think that is okay. I have no real opinion because there are too many different and conflicting views in anonymous for me to support them.
