I can still find my games but it is harder to find them as many games go for a broader appeal which means the games lose some of what I love of them. I have moved from the semi-niche market into the niche market.

I suppose this means I get to play more indie games so that is a plus?

Space sims, turn based strategy think old xcom or bloodbowl, RPGs like the witcher/vampire the masquerade bloodlines/gothic, some roguelikes, FPS like Serious sam/painkiller or Stalker. These games just are not made or are rare.

So while I do not hate casual gamers I do see their influence on the market. At least I don't have to keep up with the top graphics so gaming is cheaper?

Not fond of casual gamers by any stretch, but the ones I hate the most are the console owners that keep throwing money at Call of Duty and that shit.
How DARE people not like what you like, right?

They don't bother me in the least. The worst part about casual gamers is that their appearance tends to make more "hardcore" gamers froth at the mouth.

If they enjoy casual games, good for them. I play casual games on occasion too. And casual gaming and casual gamers are a very nebulous group. Some may never move to less "casual" games, but casual games can also serve as a sort of "gateway drug" for more hardcore gaming. People who were scared of the social stigma of being a "gamer" may find themselves intrigued by video games. Not to mention that casual games have made gaming in general more socially acceptable.

I could care less for casual, hardcore or whatever gamers. They're a for of entertainment. Sometimes they attain an artistic quality. Whatever opinion you have of video games, they're a right, not a responsibility (unless your job involves them in a way, of course).

Went with "I'm happy others can enjoy games as well as me.", since it is probably closest to how I feel. Who am I to judge others based on the games they play? On top of that, it would be rather hypocritical for me to hate or disapprove of "casual gamers" because I would be the equivalent of a "casual reader" or a "casual movie watcher". I rarely read, and I'm not too good at it. Do my friends that read a few books a week judge me for it? Of course not. Same with movie, I haven't seen most the classics, and can name maybe 5 actors and a director or two, but that's it.

Yes well, we all know how the story ends when someone wants to "preserve the purity" of something and stuff. It ain't pretty.

My time is limited to 24 hours a day, of which I work 8-10 and try to sleep at least 6. Why should I waste the remaining time on hating on people I don't know the damnest bit about? Honestly with the sheer number of games around, there's something for everyone, and only the locusts[footnote]Those who play games to consume them, as opposed to enjoy[/footnote] get the short end of the stick, as they should.

I think the whole "casual" and "hardcore" thing is just stupid.

We all enjoy games. Why can't we just get along?

I'm all for gaming to be all inclusive, however that means separate games aimed towards their own demographics rather than the each game must cater to all.

My only problem with them is their mysterious ability to cause "hardcore" gamers to develop spontaneous cases of mental retardation and verbal diarrhea.

It's frightening and uncanny.
This!

It's almost as annoying as listen to people that hate stuff like Twilight or Justin Bieber spend most of the time complaining about Twilight had Justin Bieber. Do everyone a favor and accept the fact there's different tastes and move the fuck on for pete sake. sheesh! >>

It's fun playing simple little games with my mom, wife and daughter. I was once hardcore but I find all the casuals around me are reducing my time spent with Halo/Ninja Gaiden/Whatever is hardcore with the kids these days. Surprisingly, it has not had a negative effect on my life at all.

Go casual kids, it's more fun than you think!

I'm a-okay with casual games. I like the idea of sharing our favourite past time. Casual games are a nice way to bond with friends and family members who don't regularly play video games.

I'm fine with them having their own games, or even consoles made for them.

What I don't want is old franchises being changed to accommodate them, like Mass Effect or Dead Space. It's the equivalent of sticking a time warped American character into The Lord of the Rings films, so casual viewers who didn't read the books have someone to identify with.
What this guy said. I can imagine LOTR with that character. "Yo, Aragorn, bro, maybe we should just drive to mordor, am i right?".
