I bring this subject up because... well... I have a very strong and resolute opinion about children. One that almost always gets a glare or a reprimand from the older generations.

I don't like children. They grate on my nerves. I don't find them cute. Hell, I don't even find babies cute. With their wrinkly skin, under developed limbs, over sized heads and eyes they are freaky to me like little pink aliens. With the world population about to hit 7 billion I don't even see the point of children now. Thankfully my girlfriend feels even more strongly about this than I do. I'm certainly not the only one who feels this way. As nations develop their birth rates plunge as people are relieved of the social and religious pressure to pump out as many babies as possible. When given a choice free of pressures, many people choose to have fewer or no children at all.

My opinion goes against very set, and seldom questioned societal standards of children=happiness have lots of them. I get the "You're a monster!" look, particularly from older generations when I voice that I dislike children and will never have one.

"You're not going have children? You're selfish!"
It's my life, I can do with it as I please. I don't think it's even possible to be selfish against someone that doesn't even exist yet. If it means having more free time, freedom, and money then by golly call me selfish. Hell! Call me every name in the book of it makes ya feel better!

"So I guess you hated yourself when you were a child then eh?"
I never liked children, even when I was a child. I no longer like eating ice cream until I vomit, hiding under the sink, or watching Sailor Moon. People change as they get older. Why do I have to love something because I was once one of them? (Off topic. I use to LOVE Sailor Moon. But now I can't sit through 10 minutes of it without weeping "Why!? Why did I ever like this show!?")

"You're only seeing the bad stuff about it. You're missing out on all the love, attention, etc etc children can give you."
That's what I have a dog for.

You mean those little creatures that speak gibberish and make a mess of everything?

Ugh I hate those pesky things.

Children are just people. If I lump them all in together purely because of their age, that makes me an asshole. I have no real interest in them, they keep to themselves, and I keep to myself.

I mean, people in general suck, so in that context children do as well, but I can't guarantee that I feel that was about "children" as such.

Hate is a strong reaction to something that is, for the most part, just the sapling version of you.

I can understand 'dislike,' but hatred is... weird.

Myself... I like children. I dislike being around babies only because I'm clumsy and I'm afraid I'll hurt them.

Every time I go over to my married friends' houses, I play with their kids though. My buddy, Robert, has about the sweetest daughter ever to exist.

EDIT: Your dog doesn't love you.

I strongly dislike most children. I have to have a bit of a blind spot since all 3 of my siblings are younger than I am and I have a nephew but, by and large, I opinion of children increases with their distance from me. I don't want children [sub][sub][sub]to the point that I've been 'snipped'[/sub][/sub][/sub] and if, as my age advances, I decide that I do want a kid, I'll adopt.

I can get along with them, though they usually reflect their parents.

But Speaking from a Financial point, they're the biggest gamble you can have. You put $400K into raising one just to see if the pay out will be good when it matures.

I'm indifferent to most of em and the ones I do know tend to be cocky and annoying from lets say age nine and up.

Though it's not that I don't like kids it's that I have no patience for them, hence why I'd be a terrible father and don't want kids.

You should have added an option on the poll for "I hate them all... except my own..."

I dislike babies but I like kids, in general. Good ones.

Children are little people, and they tend to be a lot smarter than we give them credit for, so I usually treat them like people. In general this means children like me. Plus I like toys and cartoons and video games, so we actually have stuff in common. I had to hang with my aunts 9 and 6 year old boys and we played Wii and watched Adventuretime. Not so bad.

I remember being a child very well, and I recognize that I have the opportunity, in every interaction, to influence children in a way that can help their development into decent adults. I try to take that responsibility semi-seriously.

That said I tend to hate children in public because they are poorly behaved, resultant of their upbringing. Still, I dislike parents much more than I dislike children. I also like blowing a six year old's mind by asking what they're playing on their DS and being like "Oh, Scribblenauts? Type in CTHULHU."

EDIT: I think the intro sequence to "Idiocracy" explains why it's important for smart people to have children, though. It's worth the financial hit, assuming you can raise them properly, to save the world from morons.

I don't hate them, but they annoy the crap out of me. if hey can just grow to the age of 5 quickly then I'd be happy. but no they sit there, staring, crying, pooping, all damn day.

scary business.

Nobody likes kids these days. It's like fucking cool now or something.

Personally, I just don't give a shit. I liked them when I was younger, but then I grew up more and I guess now I'm terrifying to them.
Which suits me fine. Easier to get a kid to pay attention when they're desperately trying to blend into the background.

See now i dont mind them until they are 5. When their younger than 5 ALL they can do is cry poop and stare and in retaliation you can play interesting mind games. Once they turn 5 they get clever and start to talk back to u and generally end up being little annoying runts = P
