It tends to lower my opinion of the person writing it and severely hampers my desire to read whatever they might have written. Often I will skip over such posts entirely, especially if it's just one big block of text, not even broken up into paragraphs (although the kind of person who uses "txtspk" usually isn't the kind to generate much more than a line of unreadable garbage.)

It's annoying to me, but what really pisses me off is when people use acronyms like that in normal talking. Like instead of saying, "what the fuck", I've heard people say, "wtf"

It's unnecessary and annoying. Textspeak was developed so texts could be sent more quickly. In a forum post or a Facebook status, you don't have a time limit. I can understand (and sometimes make) the occasional grammatical or spelling error, but seeing someone who deliberately types like that when they don't have to drives me nuts. So please, for the sake of not looking like an illiterate idiot, take the time to type out your message correctly.

If the person doesn't care enough about their writing to at least attempt proper spelling and grammar, why would I care enough to read it? The only time I think it's acceptable is when you have limited characters, such as in a text. If you have a keyboard and no restrictions, you shouldn't type like that. I don't mind common acronyms though such as wtf or lol, I see it as the same shorthand as rpg or asap.
