I only use them when I get stuck and I can't find where to go next after looking for atleast 3 hours. I never had to use a walkthrough before but if it wasn't for the fortune teller in Link to the Past I probably would have used one then.

1. In games like Fallout, where I don't have the energy for trial and error to get the best gear.
2. When I REALLY can't get past a certain area.

I use them as a reference. I don't have loads of time to devote to completely cracking games any more, so a glance at a guide to give me a leg up is sometimes needed.

I always ensure that I'm not "reading ahead" in linear guides though, as it ruins the plot and any twists or reveals.

I honestly can't imagine the pain and boredom involved in say finding all 200 pigeons in GTAIV or all the bobbleheads in Fallout 3 without having a guide. I simply don't have time for that, so I use a guide.
The pigeons are painful and boring even with a guide. Sometimes I wonder why i do these things to myself.

True story: I was on pigeon 170ish of the 200 when I got a phone call to say my dad had had a stroke. I will never collect pigeons again, they cause brain damage in your loved ones.

When I'm really stuck, I'll look something up. Internet sites are really good for that. Otherwise, I don't bother.

Quick example - trying to complete Crash 2 100% a few weeks ago, I'd basically done everything except get the final gem, where I needed only 1 more box to get. This annoyed me for about 3 days of trying to get that 1 box, all for a crappy extra cutscene (yes, I'm an Achievement Whore). Used Super Cheats on the internet, did it in a few minutes. Simple. Otherwise, I wouldn't have bothered...

I love that walkthroughs exist.

I enjoy sidequests, but I hate getting stuck. I'm fairly good at them, but give me any sort of midly complex puzzle solving and my brain frits out. Unless its that puzzle that involves transfering rings from one pylon to another. I'm excellent at that.

I only use them for fetch quests, or for games in which a level becomes a maze, especially if the ingame map system is shithouse.

No guilt involved at all in their usage.

I will always try to find it or figure it out for myself, but if I ever get to the point where I start getting frustrated, I will look it up.

The one time recently I got utterly stuck was a room in Mirror's Edge where you had to run up a wall and jump off it to grab a red ledge to your left. don't know why but my brain just failed me and i got so mad after about 40 minutes falling down that room and climbing all the way back up over and over I just said 'fuck this I'm looking it up on the web'.
I think I got stuck on the exact same spot! Was it perchance in a boat, near some air ventilation shafts somewhere?

Once in awhile there will be something I just can't find or overlook. When I get seriously stuck Ill resort to a FAQ.

I hate having to resort to walkthroughs but sometimes I get so damn stuck that my patience runs out and I stop having fun. Collecting things can be long and tedious without walkthroughs, such as hunting all the skill books in Fallout 3 or the pigeons in GTA4.

I feel like I've cheated if i use a walkthrough so I will usually only use them for stuff like finding that copy of tumbler's today that has blended perfectly with the floor...

Currently I'm watching Resident evil 4 Walkthrough on youtube, from boffyrox, I'm not a "pussy" and I dont always use walkthroughs, it's just I've had a hard time with this particular game. The village 1st bit was a *****, I used to get so frustrated with it.

Anyway, I chose "Other" because I seldom use walkthroughs, but I dont feel like any less of a man using one, they are there to help, not to make the game ridiculously easy.

Yeah that's exactly where it was. You had to climb up all the damn air shafts every time you missed the last jump and went plummeting down to the bottom of the room.

God that game was annoying.

I only use walkthroughs when stuck and frustrated.

I've never used one for anything other than an RPG though.

A lot of people have trouble with the village scene. It really throws you in at the deep end with that, and the shanty town in resi 5 is even more intense. Main thing about Resi 4 and 5 is always keep moving. Run away, quick turn, shoot, mellee, repeat...

It gets way easier from there onwards, only a couple of tricky bits later. (Krauser ugh)

Usually once I have beaten a game I'll look up tips so I can finish the achievements.

Funny you say that, I'm still watching the walkthroughs on youtube ( there is a lot fo them), and I'm only up to U3 right now, but it looks like a gentle slope difficulty curve, once you get past the village. But you're right, it dos throw you right into the Deep end, more like the ocean really, but once you get past it, it's loads better.
