This is why the only time I use a mic is when I am talking in a party or private chat. Generally, the only games I would need a mic for are the heavy online team based shooters, (Gears, halo, MW2, etc.)
However. Even ages of 17-19 are absolutely retarded. Age doesn't seem to matter in my experiences, it's whether or not you can ACT that age. I have played with 14 year olds who be great sports and offer a "good game" at the end of a match, and guys who are obviously much older from how low their voice pitch is, act like little girls who didn't get their way and proceed to childishly insult you and act like a complete ass.
From the OP's proper spelling and punctuation as well as providing a legitimate argument shows that people who are his age are perfectly capable of acting mature and responsible over a mic. Where, read around and you can find 15-16 year olds who still can't spell and talk with 'u, r, 4, etc.'
So TL;DR: Age doesn't matter. Your ability to act your age does.

No, I don't think so. You'd never actually be able to stop it properly anyway. Business isn't the law. It's better to just find the ones who can't keep their yap shut and shut it for them.

I really don't care about a persons age online. If they are a really whiny person who wont shut up though, that is what annoys me, but you can come across some adults like that. (Fair enough it's less common, but it does happen.)

So I think games have got it worked out as is, the people annoy you then mute them.
More games should allow a vote to kick disruptive and team killing players though.

How do I feel about them and whether they should be banned from playing online are two completely different things.

Should they be banned from playing online? No, unless the game has an age rating higher than their age.

How do I feel about them? I've found the majority of young gamers that I've encountered largely very annoying. So I try to avoid young gamers.

how about a 2 tier system of online play, everyone starts in the same tier until they get so many complaints for being annoying sh*ts.
once they get so many complaints, they're knocked down to tier 2 for a certain amount of time to play with the other annoying sh*ts, the 2 tiers can't interact

Aslong as you ACT mature, age shouldnt come into it
People should be banned because of their behaviour, not because of their age

Of course they shouldn't be banned.

What should be banned is making threads about whether players under age X shouldn't be allowed to play online, as we see one of these on a weekly basis =).

Hey escapists, I'm 13 and would like to know how you feel about gamers my age playing online, say at Blops?

I play online fairly often, with a mic, and there's a lot of hate that I get when i mention my age online?
I try not to be a douche bag, often being a team player, and my voice has cracked so its not like im some high pitched whiner, but I still get a lot of hate when I mention I am thirteen, just wondering what your thoughts are on the matter, and if it's justified, I do know a lot of kids like me are annoying as fuck though, so i can sorta see where a lot of people are coming from, its still stereotyping though, which I am strongly against.
As someone who generally sits on the fence during meaningless verbal brawls between various online badasses and internet hard cunts, it does seem to be the younger ones that break the one golden rule:

Don't be a dick.

However not all of them do it, and they aren't the only ones that do it.

If arbitrarily designated groups of people were to be banned from online play because a sizeable minority of those groups are PRICKS, I think there would be no-one left to play at all. So, no.

Oh god, now I feel so old... And I just turned 20 two months ago...

But no, kids shouldn't be banned from online play. Annoying people should be banned from online play, no matter their age. It's just that simple.

Actually maybe games should come with a test if your voice is above a certain pitch, you get blocked XD
And if you act like a dick you get shot with a crossbow!
ALL CONSOLES MUST NOW CONTAIN CROSSBOWS!
But, females have a higher pitched voice than men.
Some men's voice boxes don't break.

But, with a fix to those problems... You have a winner!
