It's fun, free, and easy. Those are the only reasons I need to do pretty much anything; piracy included.

I justify my piracy with the realization that there is, in fact, no other way to get the things I torrent.

With one exception, which I would never have spent money on in a million years, but a friend pointed out "hey, this looks fun and terrible at the same time! Wanna review it?"

Well, when I was younger, I was a fan of some obscure Japanese band whose music was simply not available in the US. I Limewire'd a few of their songs simply because there was no other way to listen to them, and I therefore felt I was in the right.

When I pirate video games, I usually stick to some guidelines. Either they're not all that great and sold poorly anyway (e.g. Saints Row 2) or they're rated M and I can't go to the store and buy 'em (I'm 16). I also never pirate indie games, since I figure they're hurt far more by piracy than Ubisoft or Activision or some such. And when I enjoy a pirated game, I try to go out and buy it when I have the money. If I had $50 lying around and wanted some new release, I'd go to the store and buy it. I never pirate if it is physically possible for me to get off my ass at that moment, go to a store, and come home with the game I want.

I'm really trying to lay off the piracy now, though. It's difficult, though, when you realize it's quite easy to spend $200 a month on new releases, older games I didn't get to, or expansions, DLC, etc. It sucks enjoying so many genres.

No way, I hate it when people pirate music that is 'hard to find'. Generally this means it was a small or independent release, and you are taking the album right out of the artists pocket.

I don't justify it. I just do. And whenever I'm speeding, I normally don't notice. Normally I support artists by buying merch, not albums. If someone pirated my music, I wouldn't care. In fact, it gets my music out there.

I don't obey laws I don't agree with. I don't require further justification.

It's a fact, not an opinion, that "pirating" is not stealing. The law, for once, agrees. They refer to it as copyright infringement. Since I don't believe you can own a concept if you explain it to anyone else (i.e. you write a book then publish it, anyone is free to do what they like with "your" world), I don't agree that there IS a moral issue, much less that I'm morally wrong.

I don't download things illegally, so I don't have an answer to your poll. I also didn't understand your poll.

I'm not a pirate, but because the option was there in proper pirate grammar, I chose it. My conscience always gets to me, partly because I'm an aspiring musician and it's just not right.

I read manga on the internet, but that's about it. My justification is that there's no fucking way I'm going to spend the shitloads of money required to read the english printed copies that will come out a few years after the japanese ones. Plus I don't have to look retarded walking around with one of them.

Oh, I picked number 4 because I'm American, stereotypical, and proud of it. Hell, I'm gonna go find me some countries to oppress and foreigners to insult right now.

Oh the irony...

It's a hard thing to justify, so I usually don't bother. However, if I like someone or something enough, I will give them my money - i.e. Buy something legally. I usually do this for bands I really enjoy and the like. There are also instances like when I got Firefly online, but then decided to buy it so that I can watch it on something more than my laptop. Essentially, torrenting things is easier and far less expensive for my poor college student self. Either way, I'm still shelling out $30+ to go to their concerts. :D

I'm a musician, but a classical one, and in the stage where I'd be happy to have ANYONE hear me play, so...

Besides, people who make records make money off the contracts, not record sales. The contract says you'll make X number of albums, and make Y amount for it. They might get a bit of the record sales, but it definitely doesn't break their bank if someone steals tracks online. CDs cost like 45 cents to make, blah blah blah profit, etc.

The closest I can think of is that I watch things if they're on youtube weather or not they have the original creator's consent. My thought is usually "it's Youtube's job to filter this stuff not mine"
