I like the Call of Duty method, especialy Black Ops's 'need a Spy Plane to display the KILL icon'. Though the one-touch return can be a bit irratating and tense when both sides have either flag in their own base.

The results are pretty much 25% each. Never seen such a split poll.

I hate CTF in video games. Im more about team deathmatch and domination.

I LOVE CTF in paintball. My preferred method is to be my team leader and flag carrier. Im fast, im skinny, i can lead (as in shoot a running target), and i can shoot accurately while running full speed. Im also not afraid to communicate with my team on the field. Automag RT(non-electronic) in my right hand, flag in my left hand (or pocket depending of the type of game and how many flags there are).

this obviously translates into Option #2.

The Team Fortress 2 style: Flag Capturer can wield weapons and the flag must go untouched for a certain amount of time before it goes back to the base.

Having the flag carrier defenseless makes him rely too much on his team. We all know how well that usually works out.

Oh, the time I've spent in 2fort. Not Turbine, though. That map design is horrible and begs douchebag players to spawn camp.

My all time favourite is CTF in the Far Cry series. I love Steal the sample so much that I even made an account to post about it.

Similar to Timesplitters with carrier only able to carry half a dual weapon. However, the flag carrier could throw the flag (a baton) like a football.
An excellent way to destabilize any sort of camping in the base, it really made teams fight it out for control of key points on the map.
Add to this that the flag carrier was able to sprint and drive vehicles (the quad is the best vehicle in any game) and you have a very difficult to defend flag.
The focus wasn't so much on offense and defense, but moreso on who was where and who had what spot in the middle of the map. If the flag carrier wasn't supported by teammates in the middle then he wouldn't make it to the base unless he pulled off something amazing or sneaky.
It could go from a slow, controlled game to a frantic mess so quickly.
That game rewarded skill so much but was accessible to any sort of play style. It's sad that no game has matched that to this day, except for maybe TF2.

I miss that game so much.
Gotta say that does sound like a lot of fun. I might have got into Far Cry multiplayer if it had bots. The best I ever managed was 2 people running around a huge beach looking for each other. Didn't really sell the multiplayer, if you catch my drift :p

personally i like CTF Battlefield 1942 style, aka the forth option, but you get a giant blinking sign over you saying "KILL ME" which means you will die in 10 seconds if you dont have a plane

I dunno. I'm used to teams not exactly using teamwork to accomplish the point of a capture the flag base mission. For example half team rushes one way, the other half the other, and a few jerks just pretending its team death-match.

Soo...I voted "Flag carrier can wield weapons, touch dropped flag to return instantly"

Wow, surprisingly even poll.

"Flag carrier is defenceless, touch dropped flag to return instantly."
- always been my favourite way to play. Makes life nice and difficult.
