It really depends what I'm playing. I wouldn't want ARMA II to have over the top gore, but I wouldn't want Gears to have hardly any gore.

This is one of those things that depends entirely on the game. I wouldn't want insane gore in my military shooter, just like I wouldn't want a romantic sub-plot with your support character.

Let there be blood! Gore is good, especially like in Fallout when you get a headshot. It adds a little more spice to the experience :D

If there is going to be gore, I prefer a realistic amount. When you have a game like Fallout 3 where limbs fly off at the slightest provocation, it can be a little jarring. At the same time, a grenade blast should probably fuck a person up to a good degree.

true, but I must admit, romantic subplot in a military shooter or a shooter in general would be interesting.

To a certain realistic degree. Games like Fallout 3 are an exception to me, mostly due to black humour. But in Medal of Honour, when Dusty hacked away at the guy with a hatchet, it was just too far to me.

Depends on the game. Like it would be hilarious to see copious amounts of blood in sports games, but would probably just be annoying, but in shooters, generally I like realistic amounts, unless its either tongue-in-cheek or something like Fallout, were realism went out the window on day one, and you have a perk called "Bloody Mess"

I prefer a realistic level. Not censored, nor over the top, but just enough to let you accurately gauge the damage your weapon is doing.

Realistic amount works best for me, but like many has said; it depends on the game.
I like slicing off limbs though.

I like lower gore, since my family hang about when I play stuff and blood and the little chunks it's coming out of flying everywhere wouldn't make mummy very pleased.
Still want a bit of blood though. Shooting someone in the head and seeing nothing but a little hit marker wouldn't be all that exciting.

I shoot a guy in the head, I want the back of his skull to explode. I DON'T want him to be decapitated from a bullet to the forehead.

I like it beeing over the top, yet completely unrealistic.
For example, No More Heroes and Borderlands both have blood flying, but because of the art styles it doesnt come across as anything but cool or amusing.

Depends on the game. For something llke a sandbox game. ED-209 scene in Robocop level. For a game more like Mass Effect. Little to none.

Over the top, or barely any. One or the other. Otherwise, your getting an M rating for no reason, might as well give some good reason. My only problem is if the blood goes way over the top, it reaches a point where it is actually a little disturbing and unneeded (Splatterhouse)
