i think it should be realistic, for instance, instead of shooting someones head of with a pistol in fallout, there should just be a realistic bullet hole with a realistic amount of blood splatting on the wall and pouring out of the guys head, whereas a barret in COD should cause huge holes in your chest (instead of getting a hitmarker and the guy walking it off)

Shaken, not stirred. In all seriousness. I like Fallout and TF2's over-the-top gore. It's just more of a spectacle when people explode when shot repeatedly.

Can someone please explain to me why he calls Ninja Gaiden 2's gore "Somewhat over the top"? I'm playing Ninja Gaiden right now, in Nintendo of America's hay-day large amounts of gore wouldn't be allowed. There's no blood.

Depends, if Mass Effect had the amount of gore Gears does, I wouldnt take it serious. But if God of War had the amount of gore say, CoD, I'd say "WHERES MA BLOOD AN' GUTS"

Hm...

well, I like my gore to be tasteful. I felt Dead Space and Doom pack too much, but then again its the selling point. Same with Splatterhouse.

Now, I did like in Persona 3 Fes how you were in this nightmarish world that exists for an hour and normal folk dont live it since they're in coffins. Theres blood all around that gives to the atmosphere. In Persona 4, I liked how you occasionally see the bodies of those that died. Nothing detailed or scarring. Just something for mood. In Parasite Eve, when the rat changes, that was rather cool as well, and a bit gory.

So yeah, enough for it to be tasteful, which of course depends on the game, but even in games like Splatterhouse, too much was too much, and this is about a game whose selling point is the gore.

Moderate - Realistic.

I don't need loads of gore, I just want to play a great game. "Realistic" gore in games is usually quite a lot more then I think happens in real life. But then again, I never seen anyone being shot in the face.

look, honestly, i understand that if you slash someone's arm off they should be bleeding from the stump. I still find it disgusting and usually disturbing. At best, i am mildly amused. At worst, I am completely turned off of whatever it is.
Thank you. I was starting to think I was alone in that.

Part of why I'll never play Dead Space, for instance.

This is one of those things that depends entirely on the game. I wouldn't want insane gore in my military shooter, just like I wouldn't want a romantic sub-plot with your support character.
true, but I must admit, romantic subplot in a military shooter or a shooter in general would be interesting.
Ahem, Dead Space. Ahem ahem Dead Space 2.

OT: Depends on the nature of the game. In my eyes, gratuitous violence and gore is not worth a second look at. The violence must make sense in the context of the story, and not exist purely for shock value. For example, Silent Hill. There aren't pools of blood simply for the sake of being pools of blood; rather, the environment reflects the psyche and mental state of the main character, enhancing the game.
