I like mine with a kiss.

Boiled or fried? I'm satisfied, so long as I get my kiss.

And shuffling.

Shambling are the best, zombies Dead Rising style are the ones that kick the most ass, because they are the scariest ones.
Fuck you, good Sir! I thought I was being original...

Cooked to a crisp!

Meh, the fast zombie idea is usually rather lame. Zombieland did it rather well, keeping them zombies and putting us in a zombie apocolypse. One thing that should DEFINATELY get scrapped is the whole 'brains' eating thing. It just doesn't make sense to make an enemy that eats brains and can only be killed by destroying the brain.

On that note, we should talk about the other classes of zombies.

The necromancy zombie: brought back to life by dark magic, but does NOT spread the zombie trait like it's a disease. They are not fueled by the desire to eat human flesh, and the necromancer usually takes their victims and makes more zombies out of them, but it's not automatic.

The invincible zombie: these guys regenerate all wounds and need to have their hearts or heads completely destroyed before they stop coming. Real pain in the ass.

The compounding group zombie: These ones are pretty fun. You start out with a set number of zombies at normal strength. Each time one of them dies the others heal and get stronger and faster. By the end you have a small number of zombies that are near unstoppable. Can be a pain in the ass, but can also be really interesting.

well, once 1 zombie catches the original people by surprise, there are more. This makes it exponentially easier to infect more people. Also, what if a large group of zombies converge on a populated building such as a hospital or police station. it becomes a slaughter fest pretty quickly if the exits are surrounded. This same effect happens when unprepared people are trapped in cars or their homes. In cars, they have nowhere to run, and they get infected. In a home, unless they can kill the zombie silently, and you now have most of the zombies in the area looking at you for food. All I'm saying is that as a mob, it's easy for zombies to infect people.

But on the thread, I think each zombie can create different emotions/types of fear. A shambling horde can seem awe inspiring (in a scary way), or just scare the crap out of you when it silently walks behind you and eats your face. They are also terrifying when they surround a building and tear at the walls. But a fast and insane "zombie" creates more of a "Oh shit they're everywhere!" kinda effect, but it loses some of the surprise factor because they are typically louder and more obvious. So, I like 'em slow and shuffling, buts that more for my "survival".

I like 'em quick, always quick. Speed speed speed, it adds to the excitement, and the amusement when they run into a door you just opened and fall over died, a shuffling zombie won't exactly die from doors will he?

Though really, I like 'em like this: Gently fried, with an axe lodged into the right hand side of their brain, at least two meters separate from their torso, optionally seasoned with with some gunpowder, and at least 12 bullet holes in the limbs, and another two around the chest area.

could we have the both option. i really like this poll and the idea behind it because I've had good gaming experiences with both types of zombies. i have like 40 hours in each week on left 4 dead 2 but i remember the good old days of house of the dead and the resident evil series from 4 and below. nonetheless, good poll.

28-DLs was fucking fantastic. Those Olympic/track zombies were motherfucking scary... running you down and vomiting all over you? Makes the old zombies look like lovable grandma and grandpa shuffling up for a kiss.

And yeah, I agree that the track zombies make for a more tense and panicky situation. Btw,as other people have and will say, they're not technically "zombies" in 28-DL, they're "infected," more scientific that way.

I hope the World War Z movie does the shuffling zombies right, though (and hopefully kills the current vampire fad). With today's special-effects tech, we should be able to see spectacular shuffling zombie movie. I'm personally looking forward to seeing the NYC zombie infestation over-run the US army at Yonkers.
Wait, they're making a World War Z movie? How have I not heard about this already? When is it out?

OT: Slow zombies. Unstoppable horde with a thin hope of survival by running away, as opposed to the unstoppable horde that will outrun you and devour/turn you. Actually, just turn by the looks of things (In 28 days, anyway). What do fast zombies/infected eat?

I agree with the arguments made for slow and shambling. The thought of emptying your weapon into a massive horde and having more coming at you is much more terrifying than just being chased by what looks like a crack-addict flash mob.

But I also agree with the idea that the fresher zombies are faster than older zombies. But not sprinting after you crazy-fast. Maybe a brisk jog.

HOW TO SURVIVE A ZOMBIE ATTACK

Slow:Just walk away from them and lock them behind a door.

fast: just stand in front of a wall and move to the side when they are running or jumping towards you.

Regenertive: keep kicking their face in with a crowbar.

Can't there be a both option on the poll.

I like my zombies non-existent. That way I don't have to worry about which type they are.
Exactly. (Though if I hadto mak a choice, I'd prefer the slower zombies, that way I could get away from them or kill them faster)

Well in GAMES I prefer them fast. I remember playing this one game with the traditional slow moving zombies and didn't find it that interesting. I can't even remember what game it was which is probably a testament to is mediocre-ness and maybe it was just doing it wrong. Left 4 Dead on the other hand was awesome. So much more action.

I really liked 28 Days Later, right up until they met the army. Seriously, those guys had been without sex for less than a month and were already ready to go on a rape spree and not just a rape spree but a pedo rape spree? I'm not a man but I think anyone would agree that's a little over the top. If it had happened in 28 MONTHS LATER a bit MORE plausible but I still have a problem believe everyone would be all for it. Anyway after that point the 'zombies' seemed like less of a problem comparatively.

I like zombie films in general. Maybe because most I've seen I saw when drunk. I don't know. I think it all comes down to the film itself and how the writer and/or director choose to make them scary. Or hilarious in the case of Shaun of the Dead. I remember on SBS channel here in Aus, they had a zombie month where every Monday night they showed a Zombie flick. That was pretty cool actually.

It's currently in production, but I'm sure it will be about 2-3 years before it finally comes out.

Slow zombies are the classic...

But from a narrative point, fast zombies make a much more convincing threat. The monsters aren't all that scary when you can survive them by doing a light jog.

With this in mind, I'm gonna go with fast zombies.
