How do you mark your place in a book (the old-fashioned ink and paper kind)? Do you use a bookmark or do you dog-ear the page or use something else

I have a bookmark, but if I don't have one I usually leave a pencil or pen.

Bookmark. I use a 10000 rubbles bill I got from a trip in Moscow in 1996. That thing isn't worth what it looks like it should be worth, and I couldn't exchange it back once I got back to Canada, so yeah.... pretty awesome bookmark.

I place a bookmark inside, with the most recognisable side facing the page I left off on,with the bottom of the mark on the paragraph I left off on.
If a bookmark isn't available,I memorize the page.

It varies. Sometimes I leave it open face down, sometimes I dog ear it, sometimes I have a bookmark. "More than one" and "other" options, perhaps?

Between the options of 'bookmark' and 'dog-ear', I'd have to go with 'bookmark'; I usually just grab whatever I can thats the closest to me and of an appropriate size to jam between the pages.

Sometimes if I'm feeling fancy I'll grab a sheet of paper, fold it several times, then proceed to doodle all over it.

Bookmark. I don't actually have any bookmarks though. I just slip random bits of paper, receipts, postcards, brochures and press releases in the book. I used to dog-ear everything, but then my books didn't lie flat anymore. So I stopped.

I'm the kind of person who can go into a rage about a damaged book. Bookmarks for me, thanks. As thin as possible.

Put the book on it's face, anything that is slim enough and will discreetly fit between the pages, but most often I insert a pencil to mark my page.

Also, I never knew people used ACTUAL bookmarks.

I've got a leather bound version of the younger Edda by Snorri Sturluson, and my sister's got an old gothic style bible. Would you really make dog ears on proper books like that?

I can understand doing it with pocket books, but a proper book I will try to keep from getting battered and broken.

You can't stand people who like to keep their things in good condition? Honestly?

Anyway, I use a book mark since I don't like creasing the pages.
