I just usually pick a name that I've always liked and/or suited the character. Like my Siren for example on Borderlands, I changed her name to Dahlia. :3 Which so happens to be my sweeties favourite flower. lol

Normally it is the name of someone who has been on my mind, like a lead singer of a band I've been bingeing on, or someone I went to school with who I ran into down the street, or if I've just played Golden Sun I might name my character Felix or Piers.

I often find myself spending way too long on the "choose a name" screen. I want to come up with a name that is both funny and fitting.

Usually in fantasy games I tend to name my hero characters "Garrett" or something generic like that

I like using my name. For me it makes the game that bit more immersive, particularly when you have a dialogue a long the lines of "I'm Gareth Gobblecoque. What in heaven's name happened here?!"

I take whatever obsession I'm currently dealing with and create a name associated with it.

After reading a bit of Shakespeare, I named several characters Tybalt.

After playing Doom 3: Resurrection of Evil, I had several characters deemed "The Maledict."

You get the idea.

I'm an aspiring writer, so I usually name my characters after whatever protagonist I'm favoring right now.

In F:NV, for example, I named the guy "Goosecat Cola", after Goosecat of the Cola tribe from The Greatest Game on Earth.

Usually go through a medieval names generator until I find one I like.
This is also one of my favorite ways to figure out names - sometimes you end up with something awesome.

Also, off topic... I LOVE your avatar... I just recently discovered that show and I *love* it embarrassingly much. Okay, fangirling done....

All my characters are celebrites, my most recent Fallout NV guy was Tim Curry (he is villainous) and I also rolled as Charlie Sheen (sucking up every stim I encountered, chugging every bottle of booze).

I personally just pick some of the lesser consonants and then shove some vowels in there and tweak to good. So basically I used the Garbodor Method

just depends from game to game, generally i'll try to stick to the lore of things, occasionally sneaking in my first or last name in their, but that's rare to happen.

My characters usually come from semi-obscure MTG characters. Jodah, Jeagar, Jedit, etc.

I love it too. And I think Spice & Wolf is amazing, as evidenced by the following list of things I own and have done:

Own Spice & Wolf Season 1
Put in a preorder for a Spice & Wolf messenger bag
Own three Spice & Wolf wall scrolls
Have all four ringtones for my phone set to the four Spice & Wolf themes.
Have both my computer monitors and my PS3 wallpaper set to Spice & Wolf visuals.
Have Holo (yes it is Holo, as confirmed by Yen Press) as the background on my phone.
Planning on getting a Spice & Wolf mouse pad and bed sheet.
Planning on getting the two Spice & Wolf towels that are out.
Own volumes 1 and 2 of the light novel.
Own volumes 1-3 of the manga.

Do I win?

Usually it's based on the character I thought up for them to replicate. For instance my Fallout New Vegas character Kerigette is based on a character I had used in another Post-Apoc story I wrote.

I use my nickname "Aegix" or some variant thereof ("Age", "Sage", etc) depending on the game.

And the female lead is usually "Terra".

Everyone else gets a name that I think would fit them, or I go with the default, if it's cool enough.
