using the ninja and cold blooded perks to my advantage to surprise enemies, and take them from behind.
erm... sorry... it was far too tempting :p

me, I go for the sniper way of playing, I mean the real sniper way, not the designated marksman way which so many people get confused with sniping
First of all, uncalled for. and second what do you mean by not the designated marksmen way?
I mean, it's not just about long range shots, it's about getting into the position and getting out without being seen, the marksman is all about long range shots without such a stealth aspect (sniping is more stealth than shooting really)

I am like a marksman I use a burst weapon, or sniper rifle, BUT when the need arises I'll take a silenced pistol and a throwing knife to desrtoy the other team from behind

Well, when I ever play an FPS, I'll mix it up between charging around if I have a shotgun and sniping if I have any form of rifle. I never play using over-heavy weaponry, like bazookas or miniguns, that's not fun for me.

Depends, HL2 is pretty much a one-man blitzkrieg assault.

In games like FO3 however, you need to be more cautious than that.
I was more talking about multiplayer games or RPG FPS's like Mass Effect, although in Half Life 2 you can use the crossbow to snipe.
fyi mass effect isn't a fps, its a third person shooter

OT: sniping depending on the game, but otherwise always goin to be the assault rifle person who leads the first wave then sneaks around the back

i like to switch it up though its mainly just between sneaky and charge. e.g tf2 my favorite classes or the spy pyro and scout spy sneaks scout charges and pyro is a combo

Wherever possible I try to keep my distance and take out the opposition with one well placed shot between the eyes. However of that is impossible for whatever reason I am unable to snipe, wether there are already some snipers on my side or the map is too small, I use a full size assault rifle and do my best to remain undetected. For instance on MW2 when I'm not sniping I use a silenced ACR with cold-blooded ninja. I then spend the majority of the game, if possible, sneaking around their base.

Not the point.

Run and gun.

Give me my assault rifle so I can jam it and half the mag down a foe's throat, and then smack them with the ass end of the rifle just for kicks after.

Like a NINJA!!! In COD 4 I would choose the a sniper although most of the time I would only use the silenced pistol. I avoided to camp. I used to run around the map and try to kill them from the back. MW2 ruined that for me, it is impossible to do that without looking like a douche with those running perks :p

Combat Sniper most of the time (You know, those really annoying ones that never sit still and like getting the drop on you)
But I tend to just play what any given team is lacking.
Teammates are all bloody sniping? I'll sneak around and pick them off while they are busy eyeing off all the sniper nests in paranoia =x

Though, I do kinda suck at the whole charge in head first thing =(

didn't mean to come across as "one of those guys" was just sayin,

also adding on there are a few games where i will run around with the submachine gun, depending on the map, if its a flag or defensive game then any kind of sub for sure

I like to change it up. Most of the time I try to be reasonable and use some tactics, but there are certain points where it is just too tempting to run and gun. If I get too frustrated with the cover, I step back and take a few sniper shots to thin the crowd.

im probably a sneaky tactical player, i don't like to run round willy nilly as you will just get shot and owned, so if your more tactical and sneaky about your approach your more likely to do better, well atleast that's is what happens in my case.

I play as the situation demands, however I have been noted as being 'passive aggressive' in CSS for my play style. Whatever that means.

Situational.

But erring towards booby traps and sniping. I swear I get 80%+ of my BF2 kills through either the L96 or Claymores. Even at point blank range.
