'This is how the world ends, not with a bang, but a whimper.'

I honestly can't see the end of mankind. We're to resourceful a species when we aren't blowing the hell out of each other when it comes to survival. I honestly think a lot of the sci-fi ideas are fairly right on in the idea that we'll spread across the galaxy.

Of course, I could be wrong. I certainly hope not.

I'm with the 'humankind won't end' crowd. This planet will eventually be reduced to unhabitable waste, but by then we've all moved to another planet.

But sure, the meteor seems the most plausible to me. If it hits tomorrow. A stealth-meteor.

With the Four Horsemen. Pestilence, War, Famine and Death.

Or more realistically (But far less cooler) Bio warfare in WWIII. Humans can far too easily wipe itself out. The atom bomb is nothing compared to bio warfare in the form of say, Spiking the drinking water with cyanide.

I believe Iran, Russia, and North Korea are going to get some duct tape and tape all of their nukes together in one bundle. Then the western powers will try something over complicated to stop them and everyone will die as a result, so I guess nuclear war is the closest.

This is a good estimate of the end result too, some new Hitler or Sadaam might come along and screw everything up for the rest of us.

I really doubt at this point that nuclear war will be the end of humanity. The US is strong enough that they don't need nukes to beat North Korea/Iran/whomever, and those nations are smart enough to realize that launching nukes in anger wouldn't end well for them. China could possibly pose a threat, but the US and China are too economically tied to engage in nuclear war with one another.

I would probably say epidemic. All it would take is one mutation to create an uncurable, highly-spreadable, extremely deadly virus. Of course even then there would be some people smart or rich enough to barricade themselves underground until it passes.

Or maybe we might succumb to a huge space event, i.e. black hole, colliding galaxies, or any of those scary things they talk about on that History channel program. But those probably won't happen anytime soon.

I'd say it'll be an astronomical event. The sun dieing is most likely.

OK so to everyone who said zombies should be there, a zombification capable VIRUS would be an epidemic. you cant prepare for most of these anyways.

I agree with the whole cosmic explosion thing.
in school i was always tuaght that the particals that float in the galaxy could collide and ignite (anti-matter+matter=extreme reaction).

But if you think about it if the army were to hold sky scrapers its soooo easy to stay protected. plus any non affected country could drop food and supplies from helicopter.
you cut the elevators and then block the stair wells. no doubt they have the explosives to put holes in stair cases. if its airborn then ungergrounds the place to be. or out in the desert.

Although I'd love it if the world were to end in Fire and Ice like the poem by Robert Frost.

I doubt very much that we will. Firstly, we don't know any planets that would be easily habitable to us. Secondly we have no way of getting there, the nearest star is 4 light years away.

I suppose that it would be possible for us to populate the moon but it would be difficult. An easier task would be to essentially use all of Earth's resources to build a dozen or so massive spacecraft to take us to suitable planets over some generations.

The global economy has come so close to completely collapsing on itself so many times one of these time it just might do it. With no form of economy the people will revolt, leading to anarchy.
