See, i got into an argument with a friend of mine over this... He thinks its absolutely wrong to "pir-chase" anything, especially shows or games... whereas I do it to see if I like the product then I delete it and if I liked it, I go buy the real thing... anyone have thoughts on that?

I always wait for almost anything to finish first before I purchase anything. Almost everything literally.

Anime - I wait for the DVD-Bluray boxset to come out and I also usually wait a year or so for the price to come down a little.

Videogames - I never buy videogames until the second edition comes out, or GOTY edition that comes with all the DLC content and other bullshit, and even then I wait until the price comes down or it is on sale on steam.

Comic Books - I generally don't buy them issue to issue, instead I wait for the grahpic novel versions come out. Which is usually about 6-10 issues put together. I find this a much more enjoyable read as comics are very short.

Television shows - I always wait for the seasons to be finished and get the seasons on DVD afterwards, if the show looks interesting. I don't like very many TV shows, so I don't have many TV shows in my collection. Game of Thrones is one example that I wait for the Season to be over. Walking Dead is one exception, I watch this show as they come out. Season 3 starts tonight actually.

Novels - This is a messy category...I usually prefer to read book series after the series is over. Although I pick up a lot of recently written series that are just starting, I prefer to wait and these days I am beginning to wait for series to finish first more then ever. 'Song of Fire and Ice' being an example as I have not yet started reading these, I'll probably start as the final book nears completion. Instead i'll go back and read books that came out years ago and read older series. 'The Belgariad' series is an example of this as this five part series came out in the 80's.
~This is unfortunate as I am a low level writer myself and wish to support others like me, but must save the monies. Oh well.

Generally, most of the animes that I watch are already concluded, because I'm too lazy to watch a new episode every week for the few animes that I like that are still being made.

For the current anime that I'm watching, Naruto (Shippuden), I'm just playing catch up and am a "mere" 50 or so episodes from being caught up with the episodes that are being released now once per week, at which point I'll probably switch to watching a new episode every week.

I find I don't really enjoy most newer animes I tend to watch all the older animes so I can order the whole thing.

Is it just me, or does the implied piracy and the implied legal acquisition seem to be switched? I mean, yeah, you can stream legal subs as the series come out from a few places now, but traditionally you either buy anime a season at a time, or stream fan-subs as they come out.

OT: I don't watch much anime, but for the most part if I'm watching a series that I have to seek out, it's something that's been out for a while and has long since been completed. If I'm watching it week to week, it's probably because it's on Toonami -- although granted, most if not all of what's on Toonami is long since done airing in Japan.

I usually stream it over the Internet. I do this because a) There's no TV channel in Canada that shows anime as far as I know and b) I hate commercials. c) I didn't even bother getting cable television.
Why I don't buy it on DVD you ask? Because DVD box sets are EXPENSIVE and I'm not going to spend the money when I don't even know if I'll like the series.

Netflix.

That's it, really. I read manga, mostly, there's not much anime that I watch. The onyl two I've seen fit to buy have been Ghost in the Shell and Outlaw Star.

The few time I watch anime, I tend to watch online.

Legally, however.

For example, all of Soul Eater was on Funimation's youtube channel for awhile (now only the first few episodes are on), and I can find somewhere online that has the anime on legally if I want to watch it. The few anime that aren't online tend to be the big hitters like Naruto and Bleach who are popular enough in the west to get by on TV alone.

I don't have a cable and I don't like watching TV anyways. I'll usually watch an episode or 2 online and then buy the season if I like it.
Except when it comes to anime. I watch it online because buying anime in NA is really, really expensive. And I'm a student who doesn't have that much money.

I don't generally like to keep up with an ongoing series unless I happen to come across something I like. I did keep up with Bleach for a while though. And I kept up with Fate/Zero. The wait in the hiatus was painful. >.<

Also annoying is the Space Battleship Yamato remake, Yamato 2199. Long wait between eps but I vastly prefer it to the original. It seems to lack some of the...stupid stuff.. that was in the original.

And then there's the Rebuild of Evangelion movie series. Loooong wait between those. I only recently watched the first two and still have months to wait for the third. Ugh.

]Depends if it's a new, ongoing series or not. I only buy the anime I really enjoy, since I'm not a fan of online shopping.
You aren't? Why nots?
Well, I'm old school. I prefer buying my anime at a video store, but the only place that sold anime DVDs in my area was Borders, which closed down. Buying online is too much of a hassle, and it takes a while for it to be delivered to my area.

It's highly dependent on the series. for anything shonen or similar length, i watch what's available and then wait a month or two for some episodes to build up (same goes for long running mangas).

If it's a shorter series, it all depends on how patient, or impatient i am. some series i can handle waiting for, others, not so much.

When it all comes down to business though, i make sure i buy anything i have watched in the past and enjoyed whenever money and availability permits me to do so.

Sometimes i impulse buy boxsets at conventions though, most of the time on educated guesses as far as to whether i'll like the series or not. luckily i've never been disappionted yet.
