I live in Louisiana.
That should say enough about people's general opinion of homosexuality. It seems to be tolerated, if resentfully so, in Covington. However, at my school I'm friends with some gay people. They're the nicest people at the school.

I should mention, it's mostly my gifted class who, out of the entire school, are welcoming of gay people. The rest of the school... not so much.

South (New) Jersey, so its sorta this large border area between the North and the South. On the one hand, there are a lot of supporters here, and I've received more vocal support than I have flak. On the other hand, the people here who are homophobes are usually so violently, like when I intervened in a rape when three guys were trying to "rape you [the victim, a lesbian] straight". So its either on the okay/meh side, or very, very bad here.
Isn't Asbury Park technically South Jersey though if you're going strictly by "anything south of the Raritan is South Jersey"?

Southern Jersey (especially the pineys) really is the start of "Appalachian" culture.

Well, it's not good to be gay here. However it is accepted. Hear me out.

No one I've met here really wants to discriminate against gays, and most people are very okay with the idea of same sex marriage. They have no problem with them ideologically. However, when a gay couple walks past them at the pub they'll laugh and make jokes to each other.

It's weird.
You wouldn't happen to live in larne would you?
(my town)
Haha nah I'm a Geordie unfortunately.
shame.I was hoping for a hook up
Well that's...creepy.

I live in Oregon, and Oregon has a pretty vocal LGBT population. Portland is kind of a hipsters paradise, so all in all, homosexuality (or really any sexuality) is generally accepted around here. I certainly think it's better than most other places in the US.

That said, it can still be really rough for LGBT people. It's not something that's accepted universally yet, anywhere, so even the places that are better by comparison are still bad.

Personally, I don't care who anyone sleeps with, so long as they're willing and safe about it.
I've been to Portland, and I agree with everything you say. That place was so indie and accepting it almost made me a little annoyed.

From what I've noticed, a combination of mockery and acceptance. Which is to say, you'd get looks, maybe picked on, maybe make people uncomfortable, but you're not at risk of getting beaten to death or banished. That said, it does seem that gay guys get worse service at restaurants...I'm not sure why.

But overall, people don't seem to have a serious problem with it, just a tendency towards picking on the outsider. Homosexuals classify, but they're not signalled out beyond that.

To a point. Most of hte older generation are cool with it 9surprisingly), and a good portion of the younger gneration.

I'd say its decently accepted, well, but not as much as you'd probably like.

Yep. The slogan, "keep Portland weird" has been popular for years.

It seems to be working.

I live in rural Vermont. They pretty much shit organic rainbows, so they love gay people :3 Made me delightfully feel at home XD

But where we used to live, it was very anti-gay ._. I was nearly fired from a job once they learned I was bisexual. Petty little thing called "the law" got in the way of them doing that, though.

In my school, everyone is (of course) absolute assholes on the subject. One thing that made me sad was when I heard a discussion asking if gays have a mental condition.

I'M SERIOUS.

But in the news, no clue, I just around never listen.

Hmm, well in my little part of Northampton, yeah, it seems pretty tolorated. On the whole. It's mainly down to individuals. Some people are homophobic. Some are not. In some places this happens more than others. All I know is that people I know are rather accepting / don't give much of a damn.

I think it was classed as a mental condition until recently if I remember my psychology teacher correctly. It was wrong, but it was.

It's really impossible to say this in any way that isn't at least a little racist, so I'll just state facts: I live in a predominantly Muslim neighbourhood and they are generally not very fond of gays and lesbians.

I live in the rural south of Missouri. Naturally, we make gay jokes and use "gay" as an insult, not unlike other places. And yet, of the few gay people that are around here, I've never actually seen any of them discriminated against. Strange.

from the middle of Alabama and we don't honestly mind it. as long as they're not in our faces with it or holding up the streets with a parade.
hell my neighbors are gay.
Lesbianism on the other hand has been hitting nothing but green lights....can't complain honestly.

I'm from the San Francisco Bay Area. We joke about homophobes visiting the area and being too terrified of gays to leave the house. Good times.

Take a wild guess.
I'm confused. Isn't that where Matthew Sheppard was beaten to death for being gay?

So it's cool now, right? A young man being beaten to death seems sufficient to cause significant backlash against homophobia. Especially with how much news that brought.
