Poll: How easily spooked are you?

Voted 1. Right now I am too jumpy to do the quest in Fallout 3 to talk to 3Dog, because I do not want to go in the subway. On the other hand, I've gone to talk to Pinkerton and slaughtered the Republic of Dave earlier today.

I love the l4d series though, because it's not atmospherically scary, it's oh-god-what's-going-on-zombies-everywhere scary, which is not at all because you've got a lot of gun. Even on expert it`s more frustrating than scary to get hit.

Well if the atmosphere of a game starts getting to me, for some reason something in my mind tempts be to start running around like an idiot. Perfect example in Penumbra. That game was scaring the hell out of me until I felt the urge to run around throwing rocks at the zombie dogs.

It's all scary until you take yourself out of he game. Which, admittedly, takes the point out of playing a scary game.

I usually find horror to be funny more than "scary."

I draw a line between something that "induces fear" versus something that just "startles" though. It's not hard to startle. Just make things dark and quiet. Wait just a little bit longer than someone would expect something to jump out at them. THEN make the evil mutant zombie-spider appear suddenly with a sudden shrill noise.

To me, fear is more of a persistent feeling. Something that just slowly crawls into you and fills you with dread such that you find yourself actually paralyzed and unable to react how you normally would.

The former is easy to consistantly produce. The latter is much more difficult, but can seriously mess you up for a long time after if done right.

I never get spooked because I see things comming a mile away. This includes real life because I make sure to know everything going on around me.

Very easily, at least when it comes to horror movies and games. Yet, I watch/play them anyway. >_>

still in real life its extremely hard to surprice me

I'll laugh at most horror, but when it's later I'll start jumping at shadows and cars outside.

Horror games in general creep me the hell out. Silent Hill, Dead Space, Penumbra, FEAR. I try not to play right before going to bed unless there is a thorough amount of cartoon watching afterward.

well seeing as i jump halfway to the ceiling whenever i would turn around and see a giant mole rat in fallout 3, i'd have to say pretty easily. a 2 i guess.

I real-life-situations (impending accidents, dealing with patients, etc...) I am actually level-headed to the point where I almost go into autopilot. A la Will Feral in Old School during the Jeopardy scene. I can think of numerous times at work where I've stopped something bad from happening, when I've had only a blink of a eye to react to it.

I horror games though, I turn into a little kid and want to go build a pillow fort to hide in...go figure.

I'm not scared, but I jump... that's not out of fear though, that's just out of what I call, the "Holy shit, what was that?!?!?" complex.
