I searched found nothing exactly like this.

So escapist. What level of education have you completed or are currently working on?
What is your field of study? Why did you get into it? Where did you study? How close are you to completion? How much of a screw job do you get for buying books?

Me? I have a double BS in Criminal Justice and Psychology (with an emphasis on Criminology) from the University of South Dakota (not too prestigious) and got a Masters (about 2 months ago!) from The University of Nebraska in Lincoln (home of the cornhuskers). I also have a certificate for being a surgeon's assistant (takes about 6 months).

I actually STARTED as a political science / journalism soon realized how much I hate nearly everyone in that field, present company excluded, and moved to criminal justice... noticed how many of the CJ and Pysch requisites were the same and decided to double major. Then went on (with about a 5 year gap) to get my master?s while working in a jail. I basically had NO life at that point. The surgeons assistant degree is because thru a small part of my college career I paid for my education by working as a coroner?s assistant. It was an excellent paying job but was on call 24/7 and kind of slowly was making me nihilistic so I didn't want to make it my career.

The English school system is dramatically different so I?ll try to explain it.

At age 18 in the USA you graduate high school. You take tests to determine what colleges will accept you. Our system is far more ridgid than yours everyone following the same basic path. It's just where they (or their wallets) choose to stop.

2 year degrees AKA Associate?s degree is typically for things like being an auto mechanic or a nurses? assistant. So if you?re as fast as possible you should get one by age 20 or 21.
Bachelor?s takes 4 years typically and is the standard in this country for most people who go to college (at least that?s what colleges say) Engineering all that good stuff.
To get a masters you have to FIRST finish a bachelor?s and than become a ?grad student? which basically means being a Professor?s ***** or teaching a class Master?s usually take 6 years (or in my case 8) to complete. So if you?re fast as lightning you can have one by age 24 or 25. Doctorate is just what it sounds like you go to school for 8 years not finishing at best until you?re 27 or 28. Doctorates are usually reserved for either humanities (history, criminal law) or forms of science (chemistry, medical doctor). Though you can get a doctorate in anything. To get a doctorate in addition to your regular studies you will need a thesis which is basically a book in some way related to what you?ve studied.
Don?t know if that helps

Right this thread is unfair.

"Still in high school/did not finish high school" is totally not a fair lumping together =P

I have Bachelor's in Criminal Justice too... except my minor was in Philosophy (god did I waste money) and it was at University of Illinois Springfield. On my way to PTI (Police Training Institute) as we speak.

Polls can only have 8 options. I can see how this was the most logical choice. He lumped the various undergrads together too.

Almost got my BS in early childhood education Kindergarten to third grade. am going to start student teaching in January! I drifted for a lot of my life not sure what I wanted to do till someone pointed out that I like telling stories and teaching really little kids. So it seemed to make sense. I'm excited. Except for the part where student teaching is a full time job that you will receive no pay for.

I'm about 1 credit short of getting my BSc. in architecture. And started but never finished a MSc. in Building technology.

So effectively I have no degree past highschool, but I did go to university for 10 years...

I went to university twice, didn't manage to finish my degree either time. Unfortunately I couldn't find part time jobs to sustain me through my studies and things aren't free just because you're a student.

Just finished 4 years of college. Not looking forward to grad school.
It fucking sucks it's like having a full time job that you pay someone to let you do. Hope if you work under a professor (like I did) that they aren't a wannabe Cougar (like mine was)

Just started going to college, finishing up my fourth week today. I have yet to feel pressured by the work load but that will come soon enough I think.

Turns out Somalia has a really loose definition of "surgery" and the people are intent-blind.
