Poll: How good is your English compared to your fellow Escapists?

Just a little experiment here. I wonder if we have a realistic view on our English-skills, both grammar and the ability to make sentences that others actually enjoy reading. If we do, about the same amount of people should vote 'less than average' and 'better than average'. I suspect there will be more 'better than'-voters, but maybe this sentence will change that.

Note: this topic is only about writing, since that's pretty much the only real way we can judge eachother. So if you think you write way better than the rest of us, but you can't pronounce a single English word without making people laugh at you; go for the 'better than' option.

This is a little odd; as nobody has to actually reply in order to vote, therefore you have no indication of how good a voter really is at writing English.

I would say I am better than average.

I would say I'm about the same. Then again I've seen some Escapists with piss-poor grammar and spelling so, I can't really say.

Well in School I usually end up writing some of the best papers in class in both length, research, and my use of intellectual words.

But compared to other people on the escapist... I really don't know, probably a little above average. (on another note, I really don't try that hard on my posts, as long as people can read them it's good enough for me)

Most people should say 'About the same', since otherwise the average would be higher or smaller than the average, which doesn't make sense. Ironically enough I chose 'Better than average'.

I'd say about the same, apart from my tendancy to use apostrophes where they don't belong, and spell the occasional word wrong.

A lot of people think they're better than average, it seems. Hmm.

Grammar Nazi here. I always think about my posts and make sure that they don't have any errors in them. I'd say I'm quite a bit above average. My punctuation sucks when I'm writing an essay or story though.

Also I like putting ;} faces in my posts, does that make me lose points?

You mean of the entirety, or even a non-bias,ed proportion which should yield even results.
Not incorrect perceptions, as you put it.

I used to be about the average, but there seems to have been an influx of users lately who don't feel the need for correct capitalisation, one of the easiest to grasp elements of grammar (and I will call it grammar), wherever I sit if I have an error in a post, which is brought to my attention I will go back and correct it. Many new users underestimate the edit button and therefore the value of their own post.

OP: Shouldn't the question be, 'How good is your English compared to that of your fellow Escapists", otherwise you are be asking wether a persons English watches up to the words 'fellow Escapists'.

True, true, you're right. The poll should have been different. The results still mean something though, even if it doesn't mean what I said it would. So, will my deepest wishes still be granted?

I hate to do it, but the irony is striking there in bold.

Anyways, I think I'm somewhat above average in terms of general populace, but most of the people I've met here on the forums can actually manage to eke out a properly formatted statement more often than not, so I would say average on here. I mean, I can ratchet up the... um... Englishness(?) of my writing if need be, but that is normally reserved for essays or rants on my part.
