Sorry to all the CoD fanboys and the Halo Haters but...

Call of Duty 4 bored me to death! There was nothing making me want to play the game. Guns take too long to reload, stealth is a *****, there's no fun in saving your ammunition, taking cover for long periods of time and using the right thumbstick to stab. Halfway through you miss your target due to wind problems and have no choice but to move on and have him own your team. Then you finish him off with a pistol... YAWN!

However it gets 4/5 for being a good shooter that does have system link capability, really good multiplayer and some really cool weapons. Plus the level design is great and the visuals are not dodgy at all!

It was OK. Quite streamlined, reasonable storyline, interesting gameplay, but not especially awesome overall. I give it a 4 out of 5.

4 out of 5 is "OK"?

Anyway, the sniper mission in Pripyat alone makes it a great game. I give it 4 stars.

4/5 stars, so far, there's only one game that deserves 5/5 stars.
We all know which one I'm talking about.

It's a great game, easily one of the best shooters I've ever played, you should get it.

Hmm perhaps I'm under-exaggerating a bit. For some reason I dislike COD4, yet I can't deny that is an OK game, and I actually enjoyed playing it (note, that I only played it once). Emotionally, I cannot describe it more than OK, yet rationally I have to give it 4 stars.

Oh well sorry for the confusion, I'm just in a confusing mood today.

I would call it the Best Pure FPS I've ever played...
Pure FPS games don't have plot. Or have something I could come up with in 2 minutes (COUGH serioussam COUGH).
I consider a "Pure FPS" or "Pure Shooter" to be a game design model independant of plotting where the complete and entire focus of the game is on Shooting and Combat, and COD4 does that very nicely, it was 90% Intense Combat and about 10% Awesome Interactive Story Sequences.

Well no FPS (that I've played) has ever amazed me with it's single player campaign. FPS's just ooze the need to be played multiplayer, and this is what CoD4 is best at (the singleplayer campaign is better than a lot of other FPS's to boot!).

CoD4 is just so good, that I find it difficult to like new FPS's that I would otherwise think are amazing (eg. Resistance 2 and Killzone 2) because they don't live up to the behemoth of FPS'ing awesome that is CoD4. >< I still play it now, and it's still as fun as when I started playing it... a year ago? I don't even remember anymore Oo

It's a great game in my opinion... Great gameplay and storytelling, as well as the most kickass emotional moments in my gaming history - seriously, being a dying character looking out the helicopter at a nuclear explosion cloud... that made my day, and week.

The multiplayer is engaging too, although you did usually die from level 55 mofos all the time.

It was a nearly flawless first person shooter, and probably my favorite execution of the genre on a console. The single player campaign featured excellent set pieces, pacing and drama, and multi-player was brutal yet forgiving. Even better, a single multi-player game ususually took less than 10 minutes so one was never lulled into a sense of security when dominating and one is never crushed by a boot of domination for too long.

have spent countless hours on it, it will probably be my most constantly played game until Modern Warfare 2 comes out. Although I just got Orange Box and that my keep me entertained for a while.

the shortness of the single player campaign made me play it a couple of times and the multi player 4 split screen option was good for my friends to come and play, also the on-line multi player is one of the most amazing experiences i have ever had

it feels like 4 games in one, multiple options to choose for playing and actually quite an impressive story

I could play that AC-130 chapter a million times and never get tired of seeing pieces of terrorist fly all over the place. Zero danger to the player and more fun than most anything you can do fully clothed!

[edit] Oh and I really enjoyed multiplayer until all you Ubergeeks started cacking me in the head. :)

It's a fun shooter but the sniper mission really, really gave me the idea it was life or death. Great suspense.
