I have never actually played the game (shame on me). I am just wonderring how good everyone here thinks it actually is and whether or not I should buy a copy
WTF Dude how can you not buy COD4 !

thats like not breathing
not having COD4 is like throwing your game console out a 18 story high window

go buy a cheap copy get online and jizz your pants form how awesome that game is
jiss you pants form how traumatizing that game is
jiss your pants from how fun that game is

BUY THAT GAME ! i ended up spending more then i wanted on the game but that game is so worth the money
youre not being very realistic now. a game can never be as good as breathing.
No. they're on equal footing. Breathing and COD4, neither one is any good without the other.

I haven't got the first or the seventh CoD, but I have the rest and they're either awful (the third one) or ok, but way overrated (MW) IMO.

So, two stars, mainly because activision got most of the money and the series (at least the ones I have) is definitely overrated. Especially when most of the time it's only worthy of it's brilliant graphics. They also act like they know about guns when really they don't, they can't even name some of them properly.

Campaign is fun, Multiplayer is unbelievable. My favorite game of all time.
Online was fun enough to suck a month of playtime out of me in a 3 month span a few summers back.

It's the best brown shooter there is. I compare every brown shooter to COD4.

If you're asking about the single player campaign then I can tell you that CoD4 is a steaming pile of horse manure. It's not a game at all, it's an interactive movie, and all the enemies are infinitely respawning which fecks up the gameplay (not to mention the immersion). Run and gun? You'd better! Because every bad guy you down will be back in five seconds, if you hang around that long.

What on earth is the point in shooting someone if they're just going to come back to life five seconds later? Doesn't that take away the whole point of that thing in your hands at the bottom of the screen which, you know, defines the fecking genre? If real guns caused real people to just look dead for five seconds before coming back in the same place all fine and dandy then I don't think real soldiers would use them anymore. Why this logic should fail in in a video game is beyond me, but if the number of interactive movie stars (CoD4 fanboys) on the internet are anything to go by then I must be missing something.

But if you think I'm not then do yourself a favour and buy anything else.
I agree with this.

Seeing as I did not have the resources to play any of Call of Duty 4's multiplayer, I can only judge it by its merits as a single player experience.

I tried to like it. Really, I did. The trouble is that this game can only be played one and precisely one way, and that one way is not my playstyle. You see, when I get a more grounded, realistic shooter, I expect to be able to use more grounded, realistic tactics. As it turns out, grounded, realistic tactics are perhaps the most efficient tactics one can take in this game if one wishes to fucking die.

If they had simply done away with the respawning enemies, I'd likely enjoy it immensely. But they did not, and still refuse to do so, leaving the less run-and-gun-happy players such as myself completely and utterly screwed.

5 stars. I am most certainly not a fan of CoD, especially since the series has gone downhill and stagnated. But... CoD4 deserves the praise that it gets. It had good gameplay and a good story, and that's really all you can ask for. I'd say something about the multiplayer, but I never really touched that, so... someone else could say more.

Honestly I kinda feel like playing through it again soon. I think I might. :3

Edit: Woah.... thread necro! XD

It's the most revolutionary FPS made in the last ten years. It's also probably the best FPS ever made.

The multiplayer is about as close to perfection as a shooter can get. Overpowered grenades are about the only problem the game has. Well, that and about a billion hackers that Microsoft won't do anything about.

Campaign was fun, as all the COD games your teammates are useless. Multiplayer good

Great game. Not as good as United Offensive, the single-player campaign was stronger in 4, but most people playing CoD today started on either on 2 or 4 and swear it's the best thing ever.

Easily one of the better games of this decade. The campaign is cinematic in a great way, and the whole thing set a precedent to which almost all modern shooters play "Follow the Leader". That's gotta mean something.

It was good, not my favorite shooter and the multi player got repetitive quickly for me. Also the lack of true sniping made me upset in the multi player due to how small all the maps were and how obvious all the sniping spots were.

4 out of 5 stars in my book but it was by far the best CoD game I have ever played.
