I absolutely love heavy metal, and generally live by the rule 'the heavier the better'. However, number 11 was way too much. Most of the stuff I listen to is Metallica/ Iron Maiden range (call it 7/8) and I love Led Zeppelin, the Rolling Stones and the Beatles but I also like bands such as Children of Bodom and Slipknot. So I guess I do average at 7.5, but there is a very large range to choose from to satisfy my tastes.

Depends on the situation. Live, anything above 8 - headbanging heaven

Anything else, really personal choice, as long as it's good rock of some sort.

I listen to anything between 1 and 9/10, really.

I'm not quite sure whether this constitutes a 10 or a 9. It's heavier than Slayer, but far more melodic than Cannibal Corpse. I like my metal to be melodic, you see.

If I move up into Anal **** territory it just becomes ridiculous. I listen to music to enjoy myself, listening to a good melody, and Anal **** is just nonsensical noise. I often use the heavy stuff to release tension or frustration, but for that to work, the music has to be catchy; and Anal **** just isn't.

why not share a bit of British black metal?]
But Anaal Nathrakh is Industrial Death. Not Black.
*sigh* Why do people get so arsey about genre labels? It really doesn't matter.

But if you really want to be finicky, here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anaal_Nathrakh

A choice quotation - 'Anaal Nathrakh are a British metal band formed in 1999 who fuse black metal, grindcore, death metal and industrial music'

I know Wikipedia obviously isn't the fount of all knowledge or even sometimes necessarily correct, but tbh you could describe their music using any one or two of the labels given there (like you've done, in fact) and you wouldn't be wrong as such.

The scale only really works for rock and metal though, so keep that in mind.
Well that sort of excludes me from this entirely. I would have thought this could apply to electro/techno/punk as well.

I think those fall between 8 and 10.

Mind you, I like stuff down much lower than that as well.

Sorry, I guess it would work for punk as well, just forgot to write that. I'm not really a techno/electro fan, so it may work for them, not really sure.

Between 7 and 8 I think. Anything past that and it just sounds like a 3 year old got a hold of his brother's drum kit.

All from 9-11, but it's on two different scales. I still like my heavy music melodic. For example, while I still like this:

I often feel like listening to this:

I'd say, anything up to 10, up untill stuff like Cannibal Corpse and Dethklok and such.
Allthough I like my metal best,

I've got pretty much the whole scale on my iPod, so I listen to 1-11. I've even got some songs that'd count as negative numbers...
To be honest, there isn't much I won't listen to.

1-9 that's how heavy I can go any heavier and I get a headache
that and I don't like cannibal corpse or black metal in general
so would death metal fit around nine?
