As long as the endings have a satisfying conclusion to the main story within the game, I wouldn't mind it much on how it ends.
Just out of curiosity, did you even read the OP?

Depends on the story. Take Friends for instance, knowing how it ends has nothing to do with how much you enjoy it. But a murder mystery is best to find out yourself by watching the show.

So Depends. I do think it is dickish to spoil something for someone without giving them a chance to avoid it.

Kinda kills the thrill of learning it for yourself by watching, but I can still enjoy the story anyway.
Although if it's the kind of story based on plot twists and the like, then having them spoilered for you can really kill your enjoyment.

Not really all that important to me. If the journey is good and I have a good time getting to the ending I can overlook knowing what's coming. I've never seen it as that big of a deal.

It very much depends on the specific work. Knowing the ending to, say Lord of the Rings wouldn't matter that much (because hey, good guys win, that much you can predict with half a working braincell) and it's very much about the journey.

Something like Ender's Game... spoiling the end would certainly detract from the experience.

The movie Premium Rush ended pretty anti-climatically for me and so it lowered my opinion of the movie significantly. Endings are very important for me, the payoff for watching all the events preceding. It doesn't need to be happy or sad, it just has to be more than just the end of the movie/book/game. It has to be the end of an experience, the final loop of the rollercoaster that makes you want to come back for more. That doesn't mean setting the stage for a sequel, although it very might well do that, but more about making you want to experience the whole thing over again. Or something.

I'm hungry.

When it comes to having the ending spoiled...

*SLAP*

If you enjoy something a lot, force people into the theaters or into reading the book. Don't spoil it.

But the question of the topic isn't the same as the poll.
To the poll:
I find myself, knowing the endings help me enjoy movies/books/games more. Because instead of being blind sided by some stupid plot twist I'm not quick enough to process.. I can catch and make the logical connections that I should be making instead of getting bogged down by the flashy CGI effects.

There hasn't been a movie that I've enjoyed the first time over seeing it the second time.

To the topic:
I find endings to be very important (either spoiled or unspoiled). Because while there is the fun of the journey, if the ending spits on all the choices/decisions of your journey; then what does the journey matter? (Yes, still bitter and spiteful over the ME3 ending).

To me, presentation has always been the biggest factor of any story.

I am not usually bothered if an ending or twist is spoiled for me so long as the lead up/ development is good. An ending, twist, revelation, whatever, is only as good as the parts that lead up to and develop it. Some of the impact may be lessened by being spoiled, but presentation has always been key for me.

If it's not well written or presented, than it doesn't really matter if I know ahead of time or not because no amount of spoilers/ non-spoilers can fix a bad ending.

Depends. The endings of both Demon's and Dark Souls saw me jump right back into NG+, to see (achieve) the other ending. If someone spoiled those for me, meh, I might not have gotten those games as early as I did, which was pretty late anyway, as I first believed the hype of them being 'impossible' - which was a lie.

The ending of ME3 or any other 'modern' thingamabob that put a genuine stress on how different, elaborate, modern and well-made everything's supposed to be... pissed me off to the extent of ignoring pretty much any output from those studios/devs/publishers until reality sets their coked-up heads straight.

With movies I really want to go see, I really try to not even watch the trailers, as trailers these days are sneaky little cuntmuffins that are very well capable of spoiling everything for you in their jump-cutty snarky way.

If people spoil things on purpose, I'd like them to be pounded to mush and then divided equally for every pissed off soul they saddened/angered/annoyed for no proper reason. Then again, I'm a bit conflicted on this one issue, as spoiling anything Harry Potter was pretty much a mission from God.

If I've already made up my mind about not going to watch some movie and someone wants me to go see it/rent it/watch it at home, I let them sum it up for me, make their case, let them try to win me over exposing myself to it. If I ask them about the ending, it's up to them to spoil it for me or not. I only do this with people I know personally I trust, so most critics or reviewers are not part of that deal, obviously.

Yeah.. it kind of ruins it for me. Like, instead of playing through and waiting to find out what happens next and really getting into it, it'll just feel like I'm plowing through to get to an ending I already know will happen. I won't really care about anything that happens along the way, because I already know what the end result of it all will be, and I'm playing through in anticipation of that instead of getting into the journey towards it. Even just being told an ending is bad wrecks the experience for me. If what I'm saying makes any sense at all.
I'll still play the game/watch the film/etc, but I definitely won't enjoy it anywhere near as much. And doing it won't be on my priorities anymore. So yeah, I'm pretty much the same as you.

Edit: Big example for me is Shadow of the Colossus. I'd had the ending completely spoiled for me before I'd even heard of the game, and as ridiculously fun as the colossus fights are, I'm just not enjoying the game anywhere near as much as I should because I know I won't have the full effect of the game. Which is really sad, because it'd probably be one of my favourite games otherwise.

[sub]I never managed to pull myself further than the 15th colossus. I really need to play it again sometime soon.[/sub]

Another edit: In fact being told about any event at all in a game will ruin it at least a little for me, because like with the ending being spoiled, I'll be anticipating that moment all the way through until I get to it and ignoring everything along the way. 'Tis a terrible night to have a curse.

meh...i don't really care too much to be honest...i had halo 4 spoiled for me in the very party i was playing the multiplayer with since i got it a day later because one of them decided to ruin it for someone else....however it was a generalized spoiler so it was basically about a person and something that happens o them. i don't really care because such things are rarely spoiled in depth for me. i found out about the event yes, but i want to know how things got to said event more than anything so it doesn't really matter too much to me.

I wouldn't particularly care.

I kinda avoid spoilers on principle, but if I cop one it doesn't really "ruin" the story in question. Hell, I'll usually forget about it while I'm reading/watching/playing.

Honestly, I basically regard people who get their knickers in a twist over spoilers as crybabies who could really do with a healthy dose of perspective.

Many of y'all peeps seem to be using big twists as an example and while I agree with you that a big twist being spoiled ruins the game/move/book/show (I swear, I will never forgive the person that spoiled the end of SH2 for me, ever) I think the most crushing spoiler is being told a character dies. If a good guy is going to die but you don't know it it has a shit ton of impact. They could, for example, stay behind to hold "them" off and it'd be more and more intense as you expected them to walk out of the flames or what ever and make a quip but they never do and you feel the same as the other characters on screen and for the rest of the level you feel defeated but if you know he's going to die you get none of the emotion. It just becomes nothing, pointless, you want to feel but you can't. If you know it's coming you'll think about it, prepare yourself or try and forget but it'll come and it won't effect you in the lease.

P.S. Should I add an "other" option to the poll?

Having and ending spoiled doesn't do anything too me. If the ending is good, it will still be good when I watch it, and if it is bad it will still be bad.

As for how important are endings to me, well, it all depends on how good everything has been up until the end. Though usually, if the core part of the story doesn't reach my enjoyment level, then I will never get to the end, because I will have stopped because of the bad stuff that came before.

If everything has been awesome and I loved it up until the ending, then the ending doesn't really matter all that much. If there is at least some resolution, then I am fine, doesn't matter if the ending is good or bad.

That is the reason the ending of Mass Effect 3 did nothing to me. The rest of the game was amazing awesome and then I played the bad ending. My reaction was basically:

"*Yawn*... Really, that is what everybody was foaming at the mouth about? Yeah, it was bad, but not end of the world everything ruined stuff. Wow, some people are super crazy when it comes to endings not being perfect."

The people I think are the craziest, are the people that say, "I hate the ME3 ending," *unintelligible ranting*, "Aaargh, because it was so bad, all the awesome and good stuff that came before it is now all bad and not playable."

Really, boo-hoo overreaction much?

It depends on the twist. Having "Second Sight" or "The Sixth Sense" ruined would have epically wrecked my first viewing/playthrough.

However, someone told me the ending of Splinter Cell, which had a pretty bare-bones twist that we HOPED would be coming, and I enjoyed the game about the same as I would have before.

If I had an ending spoiled for me I would be pissed, but I would probably pay more attention to everything else before I got to that part to see if it makes sense. Basically, I'm going to do that for the whole Mass Effect series and especially the last one because despite every effort I put into avoiding spoilers it was spoiled for me, and the same happened with Argo.

I will still go and try out the experience because I want to know what happened and how that story came to that conclusion, and I want to judge for myself whether it's good or not.

Endings matter a lot to me since it's closure and it wraps everything up with the story that's being told. If it's a good ending then I will more than likely want to experience it again, but if it's a bad ending then I might want to hold off and think about whether or not I want to experience the whole thing again. Sometimes yes, and sometimes no, but I will think always rethink a "go again" with a story that has a bad ending.

Instead of wondering how it will all turn out i would be wondering how will it turn out that way. I would just enjoy the ride, but it would probably be less exciting if i already knew how it ends. But if its something like transformers, avengers and whatnot then i wouldn't mind at all, good guys win, big fucking surprise.

I wouldn't care in the slightest. But then, I don't take these things seriously, even with things I enjoy. It's a fictitious work; there are more important things to invest myself in. The people who get up in arms about this could stand to have a reality check.

It´s not the spoiled ending itself, it`s more how the ending satisfies. There are a few games or movies where a twist is waiting at the end and knowing it can make everything shallow.

Aslong as i haven`t seen it myself it doesn`t matter to much. I can still enjoy a "good" ending, spoiled or not. It`s not that a spoiled ending is destroying the fun or the replayability, it`s a bad one.
