Hey guys, just wondering if anyone else here has had bad experiences with 100 percenting games.
I can think of a few games off the top of my head where I tried for the 100% and ended up quitting in the 90's. For example Spiderman 2 on the ps2, and I was always so disappointed it put me off trying it in other games. So, what do you think?

Nope, I never actively try for 100% completion in anything nor do I care about the achievements/trophies. I just play a game until I beat it or stop having fun.

I never go for 100%. I play the main story and take regular break from it to do side mission & collection stuff. Depending on the game thats normally 80-90% finnished. If Im bored of the game I stop. If I really like it I pick up some of the odd side things and messing around. How hard they are to find or if Im still having fun I get to 95-98% hit the wall and stop playing. I keep playing until Im not having fun. I don't think I have ever done 100% that is a sandbox game.

Not at all, unless it gives me a really special ending, or counts toward an importable savegame for the sequel or expansion, or something. It has to be worth it. An achievement doesn't count. Achievements are a waste of time IMO, and kill immersion with that jarring popping up they do.

If it's easily attainable, I'll go for 100%. This applies mostly to level-based games tha may have collectibles strewn throughout the game, just a couple on each level is fine and I'll snoop around to find them. But in free roaming games, take GTA IV for example, I really don't want to spend hours finding 300 Hidden Objects just for the hell of it. Even with a guide it's a time-consuming pain in the ass.

LA Noire was a big exception that I actually got rather lucky with. Really as far as getting 100% there was only collecting the cars and finding the movie cans. Well by the time I beat the game I only had like, 20 something cars left to find...and it actually only took me about 2 hours to find the rest...those two hours being spent picking up all the film cans, so it was two birds with one stone.

I guess the best way for me to put it is if the game requires collectible hunting for 100%, and those collectibles number over 100, then I likely won't bother with going for 100%.

If, however, 100% means finding secrets to unlock secret areas and/or bosses, then I'll try to do'em all.

Side quests can be a good distraction from the main quest, a way to obtain the rare and valuable items you want, personalising your gameplay and characters' attributes. Though that cannot be said of all optional quests, it still fleshes out the game. And that's how I like it.

I never try to complete a game 100%, I just can't bring myself to care enough. There will always be some part of a game I dislike and avoid so unless I make myself do it then I won't be getting 100% completion ever.

That said, I have nothing against people who do strive for it.

I only really make an attempt at it when someone challenges me to do it, which has happened a few times. I never really actively try to go after 100% completion since I'd much rather just play the game until I beat it, no reason for me to go for 100% completion when I don't have to.

I won't lie. I've gone for 100% just for the 'cheevos' in the past. I did it with Bulletwitch, which really stopped being fun halfway through the first playthrough and I've done it with Dead Space because my friend had the one achievement that I did not.

Nowadays, I really don't care about achievements or 100%ing a game unless it changes the game in some way. Mass Effect's achievements-give-ingame-bonuses is a good way to go about it but I'm still not that bothered about completing ME3 on hard when it comes out. The most recent game I've 100%'d was Alpha Protocol. I'm damn near in love with that game and will play it again in the future multiple times. I completed it on hard because I'd heard I would have to play a different way to complete it, which turned out to be true. Kept the experience enjoyable.

I'm not in games for the challenge, the leaderboards or the gamerscore. I'm in it to have a fulfilling experience. Usually that means I'll put the game on easy and soak it in.

If it adds some extra gameplay possibilities like the clown masks and doughnut talbot in Uncharted 3, then i'll try for the 100%.

I only try to 100% my favorite games and always stop at around 80-90%. Well more like get stuck and rather play another game in my massive to do pile. However the only games I tried to 100% were Okami, Psychonauts, and DMC and DMC4. I spend a lot of time doing side quests in every game.

It used to matter to me, until I realized how dumb and pointless it is. I have a lot more fun playing games now without trying to go for all the achievements.

Depends on how much I enjoy the game, and what 100% completion gives you. If it's a different/additional ending, hell yes! If it's a few more Gamer points/achievements, fuck no!

It doesn't really matter to me, although I might be baited into trying if I have near 100% and the ones I'm missing aren't too ridiculous. But most of the time, I get tired of playing and just move on with my life, satisfied with 98%

Personally I have absolutely no interest in a '100% completion' score. I'll do what I'm interested in doing in a game, and ignore what I'm not (like collect 6,000 goddamn frogs).

This gets really annoying when I play through a game with my mates and one of them has this obsessive compulsion to get 100% even when there is absolutely no point at all, as seen when we recently played through MGS3 and spent so long trying to get frogs that I forgot what we were doing in Russia to begin with.
