Oh hello Escapists, this thread again, huh?

Can you say... Dunning-Kruger Effect?

Seriously, guys. And girls.
2nd'd. Like anyone couldn't have been able to tell that this thread would eventually be overrun with a bunch of people either bragging about how awesome they think they are, or attempting to seem modest as they brag about how awesome they think they are. >.>

OT: Intelligence is relative, so I won't try to qualify mine. I will point out that IQ scores are not a legitimately good indication of intelligence (or lack thereof), considering it tests very specific forms of intelligence, because it's been proven that rich people score higher than poor people, even though people who are poor aren't born stupid, etc. Same with test scores and grades, and many other things people have brought up as "proof" that they're highly intelligent. So I wouldnn't claim to be above average based on scores from any of those sources...which isn't to say that people who have used those as examples are, in fact, unintelligent: just means the numbers they cite don't mean all that much if you actually take a comprehensive look at the factors (outside of base intelligence) that might cause those scores.

My school grades are mostly Bs, but I consider myself kinda below average intelligence. Mainly because I tend to be quite clumsy, unperceptive and lacking in common sense.

I'll be honest: in comparison to everyone I know I'm above average; what I consider myself? Average. There are people out there I'm truly jealous of so I'll never be able to call myself above average.

I have a terrible memory and an awful work ethic, but I sometimes spout out something worth actually considering.

I'd suppose 'other', as I don't like verbally admitting to being 'smarter' than other people but at the same time I don't really compare my intelligence to others...

Hardly surprising that most of us go for eh, kinda intelligent. It's the "braggy, but still sounds kinda modest" option. And yeah, I also went for that option.

Frankly I have a simple metric for intelligence. Are you more intelligent than the girl in my class who thought that oceans were man-made and the wind couldn't blow north? If so, you're doing okay.

I have absolutely no idea. I've done really well in everything academic (straight A/A* student, I'm at one of the top universities in the UK), but I think that's more down to effort than intelligence. I wouldn't say I'm particularly clever, I'm not great at stuff like Rubix cubes or mental arithmetic, and I have a shoddy memory. I am good at things, I know I am, but it's only things that I've practiced a lot, like playing the bass, guitar or RTS games. It takes me a while to wrap my head around new things (I once tried to learn to play the piano, it didn't end well), and all the people who I consider 'very clever' that I know tend to be able to do that. If I had to I would say around average.

Damn, it's hard not to sound like an arse in these threads. More people claim to be 'holy fucking shit' intelligent than averagely intelligent? Really?

Anyone surprised the majority result is above average? If so then you're clearly not part of the elite! I myself am more than likely below average in the grand scheme of things but in my catering class was the only person to pass all their GCSE's.

I think I am fairly intelligent. Not "Oh my fucking God, I can melt your fucking face just by thinking about it" smart, but I think I would score somewhere between 125 and 135 on an IQ test, hindered by a lack of focus and a somewhat slow response time. Fortunately, though, playing Quake Live is hopefully helping the latter. :p

I consider myself to be lower level genius - that is, way more intelligent than most anyone, but not quite on the level of the Einstein gang just yet. So fucking holy shit intelligent.

I'd have to be, seeing as I plan to live my entire life devoted to the study of mathematics; and the only reason I didn't finish my bachelor's degree before I turned twenty was that the scholar system of Norway sucks and "everybody is equal - to the most stupid students. No special treatment for the clever ones!".

Although I'm a real mathematics nerd, I'm generally really good at any theoretical matter, and if you consider aptitude for music and martial arts then I'm quite skilled at piano and believe I actually deserve my black belt in Taekwondo. My most glaring flaws are my social awkwardness and my inability to remember names/places/faces (although apart from that I've got a pretty much perfect memory).

And that I'm not pretty enough to make girls fall for me. Who ever said that it's the inside that counts? *whine*

People who read this will probably think I'm bragging, in which case they are simply wrong. If anything, I'm being modest.

For example, I haven't yet mentioned the fact that a shocking amount of people have expressed a deep desire to have my brain as their own - which I keep telling them would cause their bodily functions to go haywire as no brain would be able to manage any other body than its own; the day that is proved wrong is the day I gain access to immortality, so I won't complain if someone contradicts me!

To define someone's intelligence in a poll is a bit pointless. We can believe we are highly intelligent or a bit slow, but judging yourself or comparing yourself to others will most likely lead you in the wrong direction. Itelligence is to wide of a field for any poll in my opinion. One can be a genius in math, but atrocious in speech. One can be smart when it comes to surviving in the wild, but has no idea how to use electronics and that is opposite to many people on this site (most likely). I am slow in learning things in certain areas for it does not interest me or I have a more difficult time figuring it out. I am terrible with my own language when it comes to writing or typping, but can read Plato's Republic and understand everything in it. My math is low for I don't keep up with it, but my history is high when my memory is not on the fritz. Those are just my examples of certain parts about me.

I think I remember this poll from somewhere....except that the options were like: well below average, below average, average, above average, well above average.

I'll go with average. Can't really say I'm above average if USA is ranked 14th by OECD and I'm still a high school student.

average at best so far as I know. As there is no objective test of absolute intelligence its all somewhat speculatory. Lets put it this way, I never got n "A" in an academic test.

Had to take an IQ test ever year in high school as part of my I.E.P. and my senior year I scored 165. Haven't taken one since. I plan to take one again before I am 25. Hope to break 170 someday.

Most of my middle school teachers (ages 11-13 for you non-USA types) thought it was odd that I would read the latest in theoretical physics for fun.

Pretty much all I have to say on the matter.

Some people think I'm too intelligent for my own good, others think I just overthink everything for no reason. Some think I'm stupid (probably because I'm not a very social person). All I can say is that I'm not as intelligent as I'd like to be. Some people are jealous at celebrities and other rich people, I'm jealous of people who are smarter than me, and of people who got a chance to use their intelligence in a productive way (scientists).

Other:

My friends claim I am extremely intelligent, yet they and I can name many situations where I acted dumber than a door nob.

Depends on the situation/topic i suppose. People seem to think im more inteligent than i think i am, yet i know im not as smart in certain situations as they might think. I have that kind of accent that makes me sound smart.

It's kind of hard to explain, i got average exam grades and i didnt go to uni yet i can answer most questions on game shows correctly and before most others. I guess i have an excellent general knowlage base.

Oh i also picked up certain...skills, in the past that people dont tend to look for on resume's.
