I saw it in theatres before the oscar buz, it's extremely entertaining but very much a modern fairy tale. Still if you don't mind a little serendipity in your storytelling it's very good.
I haven't seen Slumdog Millionaire but City of God is absolutely incredible, I'll put in my recommendation too. If you get the double disc, there's a documentary on the real favelas in Rio which is pretty fascinating too. Two for the price of one!oliveira8 said:

You are probably better off finding it and watching a few minutes on the internet before you decide to rent it, though.

Yes it's good, compared to most of what came out last year it's fantastic.
If you're expecting a nice comedy or romcom then forget it, the film opens with a torture scene and ends with a gang murder (much to the surprise of my mum, who was expecting a comedy).
Having said that it's a good film, the story's engrossing, it' well shot, the actors are good and the story doesn't drag. The ending's a touch cheasy, but I can live with that.
When I went to see it, I watched it, walked out, went for a piss then bought a ticket for the next screening.

Precisely. I'm famous for movie nitpicking, but this one is truly one of these that Get It All Right. Really, the best movie I've seen in a long time and absolutely what blockbusters should better be, but never are.stiver said:
