THIS IS OBVIOUSLY GOING TO BE NSFW. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.

So I come with another question for you Escapists - this time the question is;

At what point does something become too lewd for you to look at/watch/enjoy?

I'll primarily use anime/manga/pictures here as an example (since I don't watch much live-action TV). But where do you draw the line? Any lewdness is too much? Just a little is okay? In moderation? Or do you want all lewd, all the time?

Like would something minor lewd like this be too much?

Or something like this?

Or would it take say, actual Nip-Nop appearing to put you off?

NSFW. Includes scenes from very ecchi animes!

Personally, as sad as it is to say, I've probably gotten to the point where the is no lewdness that will put me off.

I guess I'm just not that in to animated babes. Like sure, they're supposed to be hyper-feminine and sexualized, but meh. I guess its lewed, but doesn't phase me.
And to be honest I don't see much difference between those videos and anything out of like the Justice League cartoon. I don't think 1 superheroine wore anything more than either leotards, mini-skirts, exposed tummy tank-tops, low cut v-necks, or literally skintight fetish outfits.

Like, there's boobs and sexuality everywhere. And I don't see much difference between those and the anime chicks.

Dude I have seen so much that Ecchi is definately true to its word when it means Tame.

But for the sake of the thread.

Prison School the Manga went as far as just straight up girl on girl sex (AND IT WAS SEX), A guy exposing his boner through his short gym pants, and the clearly show golden shower via the Double Oral position.

Eh those animations are still tame compared to what Comic Books themselves got away with:

You can't get too lewd for me, but it's certainly not a requirement for me to enjoy something.

What he/ she typed.

OT- Well I guess the actual showing of the nipples would be over the border like Queen Blade.

No such thing as too lewd, I enjoy pretty much all degrees of lewdness depending on the occasion. Sucks that I don't have a girlfriend anymore but ehh.

Also I find most anime lewdness to be pretty dull and repetitive, I much prefer manga or individual artworks. In fact I'm drawing something lewd right now, yay. >__>

I use porn for when I need porn and everything else for when everything else is needed. Combining the 2 only lowers the effectiveness of their strengths. Cartoons don't do it for me, an amorous manatee.

It depends. Are we talking about actually turning your head away in revulsion? It would have to be pretty bad.
I had to skip the genital mutilation scene in Antichrist. That shit was depraved. I actually felt physically ill afterwards. That's the only time that's ever happened. Otherwise, anything obviously illegal. The lollicon thing in anime, for instance, is enough to piss me off.

Otherwise, anything that disrupts the story. I find fanservice annoying, for instance. How many times can a person watch a guy trip and fall on a girls boobs, or walk in on a naked chick by accident, or try to spy on a naked woman in a hot spring? It's the same goddamn joke, and it wasn't funny the first time.

Really depends, doesn't it? For what purpose am I watching it, and am I alone?

I don't know who would want to watch non-lewd porn, or even how such a thing would exist. I don't generally like overly sexualized material in something I'm watching for the action or story. That said I did read and enjoy Iketeru Futari, but thought that Kill la Kill was going too far, so I don't know.

Depends on the tone you're shooting for. For example, if Death Note had tossed a bunch of lewdness into the first season, it would probably have murdered the tone they were going for.

I'm not a fan of sex scenes in fiction. I like to keep my porn and other activities separate. Obviously sex can be part of a story, but sex scenes often feel unnecessary. That said I've never come across a TV show that had so many sex scenes that it became a problem.

Nudity on the other hand doesn't phase me at all. In the context of fanservicey anime it can be a bit cringeworthy but overall it's not really a problem. Give me an all nude cast if you want, just don't let me catch them having sex.

Really, it just depends on whether or not it serves any purpose other than fanservice.

Take Game of Thrones, for example. Do I really want to see the Lannisters going at it? No. Does it serve a purpose? Yes, it's the thing that kicks off the whole plot.

On the other hand, there's not a whole lot of sex in GoT that couldn't be cut out entirely. Fanservice is nice, but some shows just go completely overboard, and it ruins the experience. I mean, getting to see a nice rack is great, but it gets old when it happens once per episode.

But then again, the writers for GoT simply don't know the meaning of the word "moderation".

It's hard to take anime sexuality seriously. Most of the animators have no idea how breasts look and move in real life, and the women end up with antigravity watermelons on their chests that should be sending them to the chiropractor once a week.

What you said. If there's a serious, adult story to be told, fanservice should be used with the utmost caution. And when I say an "adult story", I mean a story with themes and issues that children or teenagers can't comprehend well yet, not boobs and butts.

To me lewdness is an overall character trait, and I think anime has a poor distinction of lewdness, mostly because of the obvious, pain-staking amount of effort artists and animators put into it than anything else other than fighting/actions scenes. I mean, they'd rather make a character look and act sexy and lustful than give them any other defining traits and would rather spend most of an episodes time and budget on ridiculous breast physics and fanservice scenes.

But what I find the most insufferably aggravating (and a quick way to lose a boner) is when these highly attractive, highly desirable, proactively dressed, hamfisted attempts at eroticism quickly go all shy, demure, insecure, wailing banshees the moment the "male gaze" is upon them. If their sexualization was forced on them or surprised them, that'd be different. But how in the fuck do they dress in tight, sheer, cleavage exposing shirts or blouses or their infamously short skirts (that reveal their panties if there's so much as light breeze) or even just skintight wet-suits and are just shocked and horrified that "gross, evil, pervy men" would stare at them?

Why can't we have more female characters like Meiko Shiraki from Prison School? That was a bad ***** who owned her sexiness, none of that "dresses like a high-class hooker, but acts like chaste maiden" bullshit. You wanted to bury your face in her cleavage? Wish granted, look forward to blacking out as she smothers you with her breasts while she has you in a head lock. You want to smell her panties? Take whiff, while she's pile driving your skull into the pavement.

To me, lewdness is being sexy, knowing it, and being proud (or at least not ashamed) to show it (unless you're a shallow, sexbaiting, ***** then you can fuck right off)

Well, once something becomes too lewd it transitions into porn, so I guess it's not possible for something to become too lewd.

Is western animation any different though? Animation/cartoons by definition is about exaggerating and idealizing; Eyes are large, wastes are slim, shoulders are wide and square (on men).

Man it has been ages since I watched JLU, indeed I had forgotten just how much grandeur they drew most of the heroines with, other than the one based on Power Girl (ironically).

As for lewd, it depends on your tone. I mean if you're making Showgirls, then anything other than actual penetrative intercourse on camera is gonna be fine. For something more family orientated the limit is probably a decent v-neck (bra optional) on a woman and a bare chest on a man.
