Quantity of lewdness is not that big of an issue, especially if it is appropriate to the medium (for example, a children's TV show should have very little or be obscured behind innuendo, whereas pornography should be at least 90% refined lewdness). I can enjoy lewdness, or the lack thereof, depending on why it is implemented.

QUALITY of lewdness is both extremely subjective and extremely easy to ruin an experience... don't ask me to provide even a hypothetical example of where this can go wrong; whoever you are - yes, you, the person reading this right now - is almost certainly already imagining something cringe-inducting right now, as you read this.

To be honest, all the anime examples in the OP are rather tame compared to some stuff available in manga. Like To Love-Ru Darkness, whose artist Kentaro Yabuki seems to be forever on the lookout for devious ways to sneak uncensored drawings of the female characters vaginas past the Japanese censors.

As for the question, I'm not particularly phased by nudity or sexual content up to and including uncensored sex. Rather, I'd say something is too lewd if lewdness is all it has to offer (and it isn't porn).

I sell anime & manga but I purposely don't sell hentai because I get a lot of kids in. I generally say to people that High School DxD is the closest I come to selling hentai but all the books are sealed and I don't put on any trailers for things like DxD. That's where I draw the line in terms of my business.

Personally I would prefer if DxD was less lewd, I actually do watch it for the plot and know a fair few girls that do the same, I think ecchi is ok in general but there are a number of anime I think would be improved by a reduction in the amount of on screen boobs, such as High School DxD & Freezing whilst I think High School of the Dead gets the level almost right. I also hate when there is silly censorship in some scenes.

My parents were fine with me seeing nudity on TV from a young age and I still sit down and watch the new episode of Game of Thrones with my mother, so its not prudishness that makes me think that way, I just think there is an optimum amount of nudity and some anime crosses that line.

Depends on the context really. There are things where adding fanservice is just going to detract from the overall experience, then some where it might be the main point?

Plus how it's done matters. I hate the kind of 'hoho a female character is put in a sexual situation against her wishes hoho' thing especially when it's added to an otherwise good story that tries to be taken seriously. The treatment of female sexuality is just... bad most of the time tbh.

A lot of it is more implied than explicitly shown though, particularly when it comes to genitals, which are usually shown as cameltoe/mooseknuckle or obscured by darkness or something. In TLR Darkness case, they're hidden inside a reflection on a water drop or such, but there is no doubt they are drawings of the girls vajayjay.

Prison School's approach is arguably the more titillating though.

Eh, I admit I'm on the more prudish side when it comes to ecchi in non-pornographic stories, depending on the tone.

If a show is trying to be taken seriously, and includes serious sexual themes or sex scenes, then I can tolerate them, and still enjoy the rest of the show. I'm definitely of the opinion that 90%+ of all sex scenes are pretty unnecessary, though. I can't think of a time where I absolutely had to see characters having sex to believe their relationship had reached a high level, but there are occasions where it helps to underscore a setting, such as in the game of thrones example above, or to reinforce a theme of hedonism like in the anime Speed Grapher, it can be pretty powerful.

If a show is trying to be taken seriously as a mature story, and it keeps throwing in boob bounces and panty shots, I'm probably going to drop it. You can't have your cake and eat it too, and you can't pretend you want to be taken seriously while pandering to juvenile sensibilities. Generally for people who don't understand why it bugs me so much, I liken it to fart humor. Imagine if, instead of overly ecchi imagery, a character just cut a long fart, and then the story continued on its own serious path. the humor would appeal to juvenile sensibilities, same as the random fanservice, and the non-sequitur nature of it may even entertain, but one thing's for damn sure, after the third time it happens you certainly aren't taking the show seriously anymore.

For shows that are more tongue-in-cheek, or more mid-brow and entertainment oriented, it's a different matter. In that case, while I never have and never will enjoy fanservice in my non-pornography, its presence doesn't detract much for me, either. I can ignore it as a garnish on the more entertainment-driven media, and enjoy the parts of the show I do like just fine.

tldr:

Serious show, serious sex scenes= I don't mind the sexy stuff, but it usually does nothing for me
Serious show, juvenile fanservice= actively kills my ability to watch
mid-brow show, juvenile/serious fanservice/sex = I don't mind the sexy stuff, but it doesn't do anything for me.

seikon no qwaser and queen's blade were probably the only series I ever dropped after 1 episode due to "lewdness", though mostly because they actually tried to take themselves seriously. If you are going to be over the top with your fanservice then atleast be a lighthearted and silly series, like say Highschool DxD, To-love-ru, serikrei etc. Then I'm all for it as I do love me some good quality lewd fanservice.

Planet-Sized titties tends to be the biggest reason for me signing off on an anime/manga - like, listen, I get that in anime the average boob size is a generous G, but when those funbags have their own graviational orbit I lose all immersion and interest in the story. My acceptable breaks from reality can only go so far, and when someone starts bounding around with a pair of ZZZ titties while built like someone hotglued matchsticks together, then I can't even see you from my limits.

Yeah, one rule i have for entertainment to be enjoyable is that it makes me not automatically unpick the creators state of mind through their creating. But that sort of anime is just so bad at encouraging that, that i cannot even begin to care for the alleged story, not even focus on it. In a sort of way It's almost a more liberal Freudian thing. I envy those that are able to ignore such inner automatia. ;p
