A couple of weeks ago, on a monday I woke up at 9am, i really needed to finish some coursework due in at the end of the next day, and from 3pm monday to 3pm tuesday I never slept or looked at anything other than my computer monitor. I finished my work, then slept from 4pm tuesday untill 8am the next day. Just before i went to sleep i was really sturggling to keep my eyes open...

but the record for the longest time without sleep is 264 hours (11 days), set by Randy Gardner in 1963.

So whats the longest you have stayed awake for and why?

11am on a Friday to 6:32am Sunday.
I was a bit stuck in to a few new games, and i spend most of the second day silently uttering to myself "What does not kill me makes me stronger".

I cannot recall the precise number however it was within the 90s range I believe or just shy of it. This is straight, without any sleep of course. My record is sleeping a mere ten hours in the span of seven days due to a severe case of insomnia.

Frankly I have a loathing of sleep and the less of it I have, the more content I become. It is an unfortunate necessity I would sooner do without if possible.

3 days straight at a local LAN party. Nothing special, except the sudden nose bleeding and collapse. Shows that eventuall your body will say no and you will sleep.

about 5 days straight for me. I took speed once at a concert without comprehending what I was doing. Although that night was brilliant the 5 days that followed where horrible. Couldn't sleep and when night came around I was just sitting in bed staring at the walls the darkness would drift in then out again. It was surreal to say the least

Me and one of my mates decided set up both our xbox's in my room and spend a weekend gaming. We got around 72hours without sleep, although we were kept awake by the ungodly amount of energy juice we bought :p

I suffer from extreme insomnia and some times I can be awake for over a week.

Convenient; I just stayed up for around 33 hours. I found something interesting ya know; at around hour 33, I actually reboot and become a child of the night again. I could have easily stayed up longer as I had actually gone past being slightly tired and become energetic once more.

That said, I think my longest time without sleep is around 48 hours. Quite lame, yes. I know I can go longer but I've never had the need or interest to; I think I just like my sleep too much.

24 hours so far, but when my rents go away, I'll probably be up for that whole week straight playing WoW :).

around 48 hours. I had to work two 18 hour shifts in a row and wasn't able to fall asleep between them because of the stress of working a very public case. It was horrible and stupid of me to do. It was the only time I've gotten involved with a homicide case though. Thank god for 'energy drinks'

I've never managed more than 1 and a half days... I'm not the type to stay awake.

Now the amount of time I've slept, there's something that I can truly challenge others in XD

Never counted. I like my sleep though. However I am in the army and have had a couple of sleepless nights during training weeks/weekends. Enemy party thinks it's hilarious to attack in fifteen minute intervals with a couple of shots fired above your harbour. You just get yor head down, possibly after doing two hours of sentry and BANG BANG!

"FUCK!"

Have to get up, get boots on, grab rifle and go to stand-to posts. They generally don't do anything after that so after ten minutes of staring out into the darkness you get the call to stand down... take of your boots, lay your rifle beside you, get into sleeping bag, lay your head down... BANG BANG!

"FUCK YOU YOU FUCKING CUNTS!"

I've been told off numerous times for swearing too much while on stand-to and always demanding to assault wherever the shots came from so I can whack the fuckers across the back of the head with the butt of my rifle for being dickheads. Generally if there's a dedicated enemy party they can keep you up all night and after a day of patrolling, guarding, digging, assaulting or just waiting around for something to happen you want to murder every last one of the fuckers. Worst one was a traiing weekend where the fuckers did it to us both nights. You'll find the tiredness doesn't effect you so much when all you can think about is murdering anyone who looks at you funny.

48hrs, only because I decided to test my body's limits one night that I just didn't feel like sleeping. I can't remember exactly how long, but I would have been awake roughly 6am on Saturday (because of school my body didn't sleep passed that time) and passed out roughly 7pm on Sunday. On Saturday I had also been drinking, I only got maybe 2 hours sleep before I woke up feeling like I wanted to vomit before sitting down to eat Spaghetti for dinner, staying awake for another couple of hours and waking up later the next day. It must have been during school holidays, I was 16.

48 hours, in order to complete my uni coursework a couple of months ago. Amount of caffeine and nicotine in my blood stream were horrendous by the end, and I started giggling an awful lot :/
