Got Oblivion for the 360 and PC. Played it a bit, but I never actually beat it. Kept getting side tracked.

I played Oblivion and found it to be mediocre, very boring setting it had. I recently tried Morrowind and despite it being a lot uglier I much prefer its tone I'm also somewhat excited for Skyrim, I just believe that Oblivion was overhyped and not all that fantastic, decent but not amazing.

This is the new game from Mojang right?

OT: Yes, and I pre-ordered it as soon as possible.

I'm more annoyed that the op has no mention of morrowind.
The main quest on that was a nightmare though, so many vague pointers in what to do next.

Bloodmoon's still probably my favourite expansion pack of any game I've played, tribunal on the other hand was total wank.

In ages long past, during the time of the previous Consoles, I made a journey down to ye olde Rental Shop, and saw a funny little game called 'Morrowind'. A comrade of mine did mention this before, and thus my curiosity was piqued. Take it home, I did, and an attempt to play it was made... with disastrous results. Lack of direction only lead to fruitless frustration, confusing difficulty scaling and overwhelming inventories compounded to make a confounding game that was utterly unenjoyable.

But, after seeking council with my comrade, direction, and purpose was found, where none was before. A second attempt was launched, and Morrowind was once again called forth. The knowledge of one's purpose immediately opened my perception to the possibilities, leading from one misadventure to another, and much merriment followed. Many a tenday was spent enjoying the magical wonders of that land.

When the great Oblivion was called forth, equipped with time, age and experience with it's predecessor, I boldly marched forward, unafraid of the unknown, and carved my was through it's depths. Adventures of epic proportions, and those less so, were had, and much time was lost in the quest to find and learn all that could be.

And now, once again the call has been made; Skyrim! A new land, a new quest, new possibilities! Mine heartstrings do quiver in anticipation, for the Gods must surely have their eye on this place, for the Dragon's have arisen, threatening all who live! There must be one who would rise up to answer this challenge, and vanquish the evil that doth taint the fair lands of Skyrim!

Tl;dr

I played Morrowind, had no idea what to do, didn't like it. After a bit of badgering from a friend, I tried again, and realised how kickass it was. Oblivion, I knew what I could do, and thoroughly enjoyed it, logging in hundreds of hours across multiple characters. Skyrim, I intend to do just that and more.

I played Morrowind at a friends house as I had a gamecube and could not play it myself. Then, when I got a more powerful PC, I picked up Oblivion. Played it, beat it, modded the crap out of it, and loved it the whole time. My thought throughout thw whole experience was though, this having come out not even a year after the 360 launch, I wonder what they'll be able to do once they figure out how to properly harness the power of the hardware.

And that's where I am now, waiting patiently for Friday.

What is the color of night? Sanguine my brother.

I mean come on, yes I played Oblivion. I am an escapist not because I am a member of this website's community, but because I like to immerse myself in videogames in order to escape the confines of my everyday life. Oblivion delivered a large and epic fantasy world for me to explore, conquer, and save. I have gotten everything I can from that world and now, like some sort of shorter Galactus, I move on to find another world to devour.

That's totally understandable, but for someone who's played Daggerfall through Oblivion (and eventually Skyrim) I could say the same to you for being introduced to Oblivion post-Morrowind. Just because they haven't played previous installments doesn't mean they aren't entitled to get pumped for the next. It's somewhat elitist, and it would be best to drop it. HOWEVER, what does irk me are the clueless serfs who buy the last installment, and don't use that as precedent to as much as bother with the previous. I know people who assume BF3 is the direct sequel to BFBC2. Depressing. In THAT case, you're totally entitled to elitism :p.

I'd imagine most Escapists who are psyched for a new Beth game have played Oblivion, Morrowind or both.

I understand why people who didn't like Oblivion would be hyped for Skyrim... it looks prettier, has dragons and the combat seems greatly improved.
Well, there's that, but there's a little more too. If it was just Oblivion, I wouldn't be hyped for Skyrim at all, but Fallout 3 really struck a chord with me, so here's hoping Bethesda keep with that sort of improvement (and it looks like they have.) When I played Oblivion i was bored, when I played FO:3 I was mesmerized. Though maybe that's because I played the latter first...

I definitely played it. I played it to death (finished as every race and class type 2 or 3 times) and recently started a new game. So yes, I kinda played it a bit.

Played Morrowind for a few hours many years ago but just couldn't get into it.

Played Oblivion for a few hours a couple of years ago, initially liked it but then got bored with the missions and a little lost with it.

Loved Fallout 3 and all it's DLC.

Loved Mass Effect 1 & 2.

I am currently still going through Dragon Age (original) though, and plan on next buying the Fallout: New Vegas Ultimate Edition.

So, although keen to play Skyrim as I hope it's a fantasy version of Fallout, I will probably wait until the inevitable version with all DLC comes out in 12 months or so.

Eh...I played Oblivion, not entirely certain about Skyrim though. Maybe when it's lost the shiny newness factor and the patches for the seemingly inevitable round of Elder Scrolls game-breaking bugs has been released I'll pick it up.

eh...you'd be surprised

my meathead football ex roommate even played oblivion (he liked the damn game too, he walked by one time doing a double take saying "OH SHIT IS THAT OBLIVION?!?") which i was surprised by, but hey it just goes to show that games can bring odd people together.

Yes, I played co-op mode (hard to explain) with a buddy on his xbox in 2006, I played through the whole game on my PS3 in 2008, and I have played a third time on my computer recently.
One of my favourite games.

I've spent time with Oblivion, Morrowind and the Fallout games (apart from Fallout 2, which deigned my computer unworthy of, you know, actually working).
