I'm just trying to understand the market better. Games are enjoyed by so many different kinds of people. So please, do tell a bit about your buying habits in the comments. As much as you feel comfortable disclosing.
Me first: my 360 has died for the 6th and final time, so now I do all my gaming on a mid to high end PC. I'm a bit of a steam junky. I don't mind the DRM, because I've become fairly good at cracking DRM in general, should my games stop working for utterly no reason. Hell, it's almost become an essential skill living in this day and age :(
So I end up buying about 10 to 20 games a year, about half of them AAA, half of them indie, NONE of them any of the crap that clogged up steam's front page over the last year...
And now you!

Well lets see, I want to separate this into categories.

As far as full price ($60) AAA console games go, I buy maybe 1-2 a year. 3-4 on a particularly good year.
As far as handheld games for I'd say about 5-6
On sale digital stuff like from GOG and Steam...well I've bought like 30 this year, but that's 'cause a LOT of stuff I liked went on sale. I'd say this is usually only like 4-5
And then lets just say Misc. stuff which includes price drops and iOS games is about 10.

So I'd say roughly...eh...yeah, I'd say about 10-15, but that number seems to be decreasing with each year.

1 or 2, usually. I'm pretty elitist in my tastes, so not much comes around that really interests me. At least in the form of new games. Of course I buy older ones quite often, but as far as new releases go, there's usually only 1 or 2 a year that peak my interest. That might be extended to 3 or 4 on a particularly pleasant year, such as 2015 promises to be with Witcher 3, Kingdom Come: Deliverance and Mount & Blade 2: Bannerlord.

I'd probably better put 21+ just to be safe. I've only bought about six games this year for consoles and if I still gamed on them only, I'd have a lot less. But with PC and Steam coming into my life, I buy a lot more. I see a game that somewhat interest me on Steam for under ten bucks, I buy it. Like just last week I bought Dishonored: Game of the Year Edition for ten bucks. I don't even really care for that game. Just figured I'd give it another chance. That's why I'd better pick that one.

That depends. Are we counting the number of purchases or the number of games total? I bought 18 games between August 24 2013 and August 25 2014. But since most of them are "collections" (i.e. God of War Saga has 5 games, Ezio Trilogy has 3, etc) I actually acquired 31 games (all but 2 new) at an average of $10 each.

This average is made possible by never having paid over $19 for any single game, and avoiding new releases like the plague. The most recent thing I own is Bioshock: Infinite and to be honest I haven't even played it yet.

I tend to buy quite a lot of games, but they tend to be about a year old at the newest, with a few exceptions here and there. I just can't afford to drop £40 on a new game, not without sacrificing new books or music, both of which I'd probably enjoy more.

So, altogether, I probably buy 30+ games in a year, but they'll mostly be really old (and probably on sale) or indie.

8-10 depending on what is being released.

It's very, very rare I buy games on release (no point when they will be on sale a few months later somewhere) but I do throw money at things like Steam sales if I notice anything that looks remotely interesting.

Humble Bundle should skew this poll towards the highest number. I got games from bundles I haven't even played and no interest in. Just supporting charity and getting maybe the one or two games I wanted.
Then throw in some Steam sales.
I like how the poll doesn't go beyond 21+ so I don't have to count.

Probably 1 or 2 as soon as they are released.

5 or 6 older ones either this gen or before and thats usually it for the consoles.

PC I used to buy a few boxed but that doesnt happen much anymore maybe 1 a year if that now.

So for steam I tend to buy about 3 when they are on sale very very rarely buy new on steam once only I believe.

GOG I buy a lot more probably about 15 a year.

Handhelds about 1 game a year if that and for mobiles zero games I have never bought or spent money on one.

This year has been a bigger year for me as I have snatched up older games from last gen that have finally seen the price cuts I have wanted.

I'd probably say ~10, but thanks to Humble Bundle, Steam Sales and gog Sales it's way above that

Thinking of all the consoles I own and every now and then something on steam. I'd say 25-30 a year easy.

PS2 games are now so cheap I cant help myself so thats about 10-11

I buy most games on the 360 as it has more memory space than my ps3, so that'll be about 23 new releases or used games that catch my eye. The PS3 is used mostly used for exclusives and Jrpg's.

Don't buy much for the PS4 yet as few interesting things have come out yet. I have 3 games for it in all.

Only 3 or 4. I tend to be rather picky about what I do and don't buy.

Less than ten or so. I mostly buy secondhand or during sales, but I'm getting pickier and I'm not prone to impulse purchases, so the number of games bought tends to go down each year. In fact, I haven't bought a game in four months now.

This year has been slow; I bought only a couple games off Steam Summer Sale... I won't touch "the AAA-games" until they come with a reduced price, but no new releases has peaked my interest lately. The next Borderlands might be a game I would be intrigued to buy full price, but we'll see.

HOO-RAH a thread that isn't about gaming current events...
OTT: Roughly 8 games a year. I try not to pre-order games and most of them are from steam sales. Kinda sad cause theres so much shit out there now and you have to be so savvy and informed to know how to use your money wisely. Guess that gives TotalBiscuit a job to do.

If you are referring to 60 dollar AAA affairs, it is actually hard to remember the last one I bought. It is gradually becoming zero. However, when it comes to other kinds of titles, it varies. I'd say between 5-7. However I am known to pick up a lot of old games on the cheap during sales often.

I buy on average maybe a 100 a year I think.

I tend to buy at least a dozen games during the steam sales, especially games for research/streaming. Some from GoG as well.

I also tend to by between 10 and 20 console games a year, very few at full price though.

Dozens, if you factor in games on sale. I don't buy a lot of full price retail games, but I will take a chance on a five dollar game.

1 or 2, I'd say.

A lot of the games I play are either presents, or are owned by other people I share accommodation/platforms with (my brother, my roommate, etc).
