Personally I liked it myself.

Haven't seen it and, don't plan to. I saw the original trilogy but can't remember the plot...at all...Don't see a reason to see the fourth.

It wasn't the worst film I've seen by a long shot, but it dragged, the plot seemed artificially long and silly and it just lacked flair. Shame, really, since I liked the others.

Ended up seeing it, even though I said I wouldn't.
It was decent, so yeah. I liked it.

The fourth is like a movie by itself. Nothing really to do with the trilogy. Except for the map to the fountain of youth.

I don't plan to see it. I felt the second and third were quite a bit weaker than the first, so if this movie is quite a bit weaker than those two I doubt it's worth me going. If Netflix has it on demand later I might watch it.

I enjoyed it, the fact that Orlando Bloom and Kiera Knightley weren't poncing about helped a lot I think, they are very annoying.

Was quite dissapointed. Sparrow and Barbossa still retains their charms though so i guess it's ok.

I enjoyed it, maybe not as much as the original trilogy, but johnny Depp does not disappoint as Captain Jack Sparrow.

Didn't like it that much. While Jack and Barbossa had their original charms and all, I just didn't like it as much as the original series.

However, the mermaid scene was pretty cool.

The original trilogy's story doesn't really relate to this movie. Of course, some things carry over -- namely some of the characters, the original lore, the map, and the compass. But the huge story of Pirates 1-3, with Elizabeth and Will, is gone; the characters never showed up in the movie.

I found it to be more akin to the first one than it's sequels, before the series turned into this pseudo fantasy epic.

In retrospect though, a lot of the plot points and events that took place didn't make any bloody sense.

"Welcome to the Caribbean, love." *hands rum*

OT, I thought it was just okay, but anything with pirates in it will buy you a few hours of my time any day. The two things that annoyed me the most was how dark the whole movie seemed to be (in terms of lighting), and the romance between the Bible-basher and the mermaid, which seemed really forced and contrived, like they were trying to compensate for not having Will and Elizabeth. I think that if it weren't for Jack Sparrow and Barbossa, the whole thing would have been just awful.

On that note, BARBOSSA. <3

I saw it yesterday and it was pretty damn bad. I honestly don't know what happened. The character of Jack Sparrow has lost most of his charm in this movie, Barbarossa used to be awesome, but now he's hardly recognizable anymore, Penelope Cruz left no impression whatsoever....it didn't even feel like a Pirates of the Carribean movie anymore. In fact, it didn't even feel like a pirate movie period. How can you have a pirate movie without any ship battles?

Edit: Did I mention that there's a completely useless subplot involving a mermaid and some missionary that serves no purpose whatsoever? No? Well, there is and the whole thing comes out of nowhere, makes no sense, and doesn't fit into the movie.

I personally did not like it at all. I felt the dialogue was overall bad, the plot very thin (I mean, just looking at Penelope Cruz, who would think she 'needed years'? That Jack apparently took from her?), and the characters distorted.

I'll just put my rant in spoiler tags, so it won't ruin the experience of someone who has not seen it yet.

Also, Blackbeard did not impress me. Here is why: He has magic powers, sort of, and where did they come from? Never told that one. The audience is told that he turns people into zombies (never figured out why or how), and Jack mentions that he is the most feared pirate ever. *sigh* Since when?! We haven't heard of Blackbeard in the original trilogy at all, and now you suddenly expect me to buy that this guys is so evil? Not a chance. The inverse use of 'show, don't tell' technique was not in the movie's favor either.

EDIT: Anyone else having a problem that the missionary and the mermaid never really had names, but were still supposed to be important?

I didn't see it. The second part was meh and the third was just awful, and now they've made an unrelated 3D sequel. I think I'll wait till it's on TV or something.

"I have yet to see it", more specifcally I won't be seeing it. I watched the first one and that fufilled any need I had for a pirate movie made after 1958.

I went to go see it because I needed a good laugh. I got one. These movies are funny as hell.
