I don't "dislike" it as much as I want people to stop bringing it up every other post. If you like it, excellent, good for you. Your oppinion varies from mine, but I have no right to say you can't enjoy it. However, I can say that it's really annoying when 1 out of every 4 posts on this site involves it.

I feel anime is just another medium to convey a message and I watch the good ones, or the ones that can keep me interested.

I don't like the high-school girls running about doing crap type animes, however you would define naruto/bleach/etc or the robots violencing stuff with explosions and tits genres that seem to be found mostly in anime. Which means most of it really. although there have been a fwe exmaples that I've watched and really enjoyed, although I've never seen exactly what being an anime brought to any of them that couldn't have been achieved through any other visual medium. Also, none of what I liked fits under the first three categories.

I generally dislike it, however my ex got me to watch a bit, and there were a few things I enjoyed, but I couldn't really get into any of it.

I'll start this with a compliment just so I can avoid some hate for this post. So to be fair I have seen some animes I really enjoyed (most notably wolfs Rain).

But 99% of the time it's all the same to me and one thing I really can't stand is the way they do the animation. Let's say theres a really dramatic scene and the main character is yelling in pain or triumph, s/he stays completely still but the background starts moving up. I mean, have some originality.

Not just that but it's like they never know how to emote properly and because of that everything is so overexaggerated that it totally pulls me out of the show/movie. I think this annoys me most of all. But again, to be fair I have seen a rare few that I liked so don't take me as a flaming troll.

One more thing, which isn't really the fault of the animes so I dont really care too much...I dont want to always read subtitles when I watch my tv show/movie. Sometimes I just like to have something playing in the background so more likely than not I'll opt to a translation, which as anyone who's seen an anime will know, almost always suck. Not really their fault, but it still bothers me.

I really WANT to like it, but every time I try and watch some, I just can't take it seriously.

The one exception to this is Hellsing. I have only seen it a few times, but it was great.

I'm not really that big a fan of cartoons, but I liked watching Death Note. I never finished watching it however the story was pretty good and I enjoyed watching the 14 episodes of it that I got through. I only stopped watching because I couldn't find any English dubs anymore.

It's more of a case by case thing though, I don't like all anime or all sitcoms or all comedy dramas. I just like the shows that appeal to me, regardless of genre.

Manga is tolerable, and some anime that is well made (Cowboy Bebop, Ghost in the Shell), but its poorly animated. Take a drink of booze everytime you see a stillshot or a keyframe. You'll be dead within 10 minutes.

And the characters only exist to make us buy into the franchises. They arent deep complex creatures, they're shallow frames. The women are either huge breasted dominatrixes, or children who let themselves get groped and felt up. The men are androgynous, moody, non-functional, tools who are never honest to themselves or other people. AND THE ANGST! Oh god the angst. This is not how human beings act, Japan! NO! *slaps them on the wrist*

If I want porn I'll watch porn, if I want action I'll watch something were WARS ARENT FOUGHT BY CHILDREN, if I want comedy I'll watch something besides WOAHAHAHA fucking wacky kawaii desu garbage.

Japan is getting lazy, sloppy, and desperate. Watch Adult Swim, notice how many shows have unique art styles and different comedic styles? Every single goddam one. Now why can't manga developers get a bit more creative?

I never really got people who say they dislike anime as a whole.

It would be like saying "I don't like movies" There's such a wide verity to choose from that you couldn't possibly dislike it all.

Unless it's some combination of hating the art style and hating reading subtitles,(or god awful dub work from some English actors)

It really depends on the anime

I personally enjoy mostly older stuff, such as Rurouni Kenshin, Yu Yu Hakusho, Dragonball Z, Hikaru no Go, and of course GUNDAM. (I have 0079, Zeta, Wing, Endless Waltz, Char's Counterattack,Evolve and the more recent 00)

I grew to disdain Naruto and One Piece, as I found the stories, villains and plot devices had become far too absurd. (Orochimaru, Pain and Tobi's retardedly incredible refusal to just die already, and them sailing up a mountain to the sky kingdom.)
