If it's unreadable it is fairly awful. However a grammar mistake or 2 isn't going to change my opinion of a post, everyone makes typos every once in awhile.

If there are a few grammar mistakes it does make you come across as less intelligent tho (not saying that's fair or accurate just saying what I think).

Also, this whole post I am now painfully conscious of making a grammar mistake. So much pressure! I CAN'T TAKE IT!!!

If someone isn't willing to spend the time to make a post legible, then I don't spend the time reading it.
Lack of grammar makes even the smartest statements look like they are coming from an idiot. That said, I'm fine with common mistakes, that only pretentious people try to correct people on. Like my unneeded comma back there, or ending a sentence with a preposition. Obviously people make errors, I'd go strait to hell if I tried to say I didn't.
I'm a terrible speller, but thankfully with Firefox's spell-check I don't have to edit posts in word first.

I don't think I've ever called someone out on it though, I just sit there quietly judging.

the occasional fault is no biggie, but when people don´t even seem to try to fromulate themselves in a respectable way, it bothers me.
Yeah, that's exactly how I feel. Coming off as an 11yo girl on AIM is probably not something you want to do if you're debating something even remotely serious.

As long as I can understand what the person is trying to say I'm fine. Not everyone is english and this is a forum.

Depends on the context in question, really. Casual emails between friends, I really don't care if you muck up your grammar (though I will notice, of course, that being my job), and the same largely holds true for forum posts. I'm certainly not about to criticize someone for splitting an infinitive or incorrectly using a semicolon if they've gotten their point across in a clear and coherent fashion. (Note: lack of punctuation and/or capitalization means you're probably not being very coherent.) I'll notice the mistakes, but won't really hold them against the author. Rampant spelling errors do bother me a great deal, because that speaks to me of general sloppiness and/or laziness (though obviously that's not true for non-native speakers).

In a more formal setting, however, I take grammar quite seriously. If, for example, you're sending me a pitch for the magazine, or asking for a job, or something along those lines, you'd better believe I'm judging your grammar.

I'm dyslexic, so I constantly have bad spelling and grammar and it makes me sad when people point it out.

Grammar and spelling on the internet... well, I don't usually mind that much and since my English isn't perfect I can't judge others based on their mistakes, right?

But it does annoy the hell out of me when ppl writ liek tis!!!1

Not so much other people...but myself. I try not to make too many mistakes in my own work.

Yeah, no.

In reality, I'm one of those people who will attempt to always use proper grammar, and implore others to do the same.

Capitals, full stops and commas should be used properly.

Colons, semi-colons, apostrophes and contractions aren't really that important. I don't even know the proper use of the colon or semi-colon so can't really judge.

I care a lot about my grammar. She's old and can't take care of herself anymore.

I don't really care about grammar or spelling. Even my friend who uses "a" instead of "I" and likes to cut out the majority of vowels from words doesn't bother me.

Bad grammar does worry me sometimes though, like on WoW when I ask in /2 for an arena partner and I get whispered by some guy saying "hi i haf full pvp n i kno tacts wana team?" I don't immediately assume he's a kid, but it's a possibility. Fortunately more often than not they're foreign, so I don't care.

Considering my grammer is already bad, I care less for those who also have bad grammers. By all mean however I want to improve my grammers skill and I mostly do double check my spellings and grammers.

I use grammar all the time. If I know how to use it, why not?

And, one of The Escapist's rules is to put effort into your communication, and what it means is that you should at least bother to use correct grammar, or spelling.

So, here I am, filling out a job application, and I find this question: "In your opinion what is great customer service look like?"

Two words: Proof read.

A few cut corners are fine but I despise it when people talk like idiots for no reason.

I still have an old non-qwerty phone, and yet I am the only person of my friends (who most have smart phones with full keyboards) that won't substitute "u" and "r" or misspell every second word because it can be shortened if you do so
