I love a good customizable character in games. Being able to tweak the settings on my character to make them picture perfect gives it more personality to me. It can even be the color of your armor in halo to the decal in motorstorm. Games like spore where you create your own creature or Army of Two with pimping your guns.

To me customizing a character is making your personality transport into the game. Changing your characters colors, which is some of the lightest customization, still makes it feel like yours. Putting on new armor or giving it that custom painted weapon is like designing your dream house. Even down to choosing a character in l4d is a choice that reflects your personality to an extent.

How do you feel about customization in games?

Yeah I definitely like customisation. I don't like customization though (stupid American English... *grumble grumble*)

It is nice, assuming I'm able to actually look at them while playing.

Mostly faces though. Adjusting body proportion is a joke.

I do loves me some customisation. Mostly on the person I control, but vehicles and stuff are acceptable as well.

It depends on the game. Thanks to Pure I found out that I'm too intimidated and lazy to try and customize my racing vehicle so I don't even care about it in racing games. But with RPGs obviously customization is what it is all about. As for FPSs like MW 2 and Resistance that have customizable classes I just find whatever works the best for me and I stick with it. I always make "back-up" or "secondary" classes because I feel that I might need them at some point, but I never do, so I only stick to one class.

For some reason, its often the most important part of a game for me, it will honestly sway whether i buy a game or not, Im always wishing games which i have had more, its really weird but i cant handle it... If Modern Warfare had it i would sell my precious sofa for a copy...

Yes because Saints Row 2 would have been much more boring if i were a generic thug rather than what i made...might post a screencap when the game decides to load

Edit :

i cant be the only one who did this

Yeah I hate most customization. I just want to play a game made professionally by a game designer that has at least some experience. This is the main reason why I hated games like Spore. I don't mind customization in the form of scopes to add on guns because they actually have a purpose(unless you're talking about the pimp my gun thread... 4 scopes attached together does not mean better accuracy...).

I liked it alot in Assassins Creed 2. You could have the suit in different colors besides plain white.

heh, yeah, Saints Row 2 reminded me how much fun I could have with customizing

trust me, I've made a few..weird characters..and while it's not too extreme, they're playful. And as for bodies...well...I don't put too much into that...

It's why I love RPGs but find alot of them disappointing. Most are JRPGs where you get almost no customization (I love the FF though, I wouldn't change them except when you get a guy like Vaan as your starting character, thank god you could replace him). Then you get Western RPGs where they give customization where it barely affects your gameplay, there should be some gameplay/story reward based on how you customized your character. MMOs have a good idea but the only problem is that they're MMO's where you have to pay monthly fees for the good ones, spend months and months of grinding and you have to rely people not being douches. CoD4 and MW2 have a good idea for weapons but the problem is you have to unlock them, making you play differently from what you normally would (some of the rewards are reasonable like upgraded perks).

I do enjoy playing the character I want to, not just the already-made person. Sometimes I play as the regular character, but it's nice looking how I want to.

It depends on the customisation. If we're talking about just looks, then I rarely go for it.

Now if we're talking about giving a walking battle tank a gert big cannon, some machine guns and a missile launcher? Mixing and matching weapon modifications to make a rifle tailor-made for me? Then yes.

Its what often first interests me in a game, if it weren't for customisation, i would never have tried/bought games like Spore and Champions Online. Spore was a huge dissapointment as it evolved from the awesome create a spieces with advanced movement systems and looked much like the advanced AI in Polyworld, however it turned out to be a create a Monster/alien/penis/cartoon, aswell as cutting corners when it came to AI and graphics, turning it into a childs first game kind of thing. Man, it had so much potential.
