I live in Kiel, Northern Germany; I'm not from here, but I moved here because I study at this city's university.
Maybe it's because I grew up in a village, but I love it here. Everything I could want or need is within my immediate grasp, I'm not dependent on my car as much anymore. The city's of ideal proportions for me: I can party hard if I so desire, but I can get peace and quiet, too, the city doesn't keep me up at night. The suburban areas kinda stink, but I never go there anyway. There's a lot of history and politics here, the city's packed full of interesting architecture, the people are great once you get in tune with the general vibe, and despite this being a city the air's always fresh because Kiel is a port town with direct access to the sea; this also results in a comfortably cool climate and a stiff breeze for most of the year. Oh, and I have access to a yacht, so I can go sailing during the summer if the mood hits me.
