It all depends on the game, something like mario would not be improved by goombers...i think that is right, exploding into red clowns on being jumped on but then again the censored virtion of no more heroes was not knocked down all that much by the removal of blood, if I did not find out it was meant to be blood later i would not have cared.
A realistic game should have the ammount of blood you expect and an over the top game can have none to tones of blood. Gore can be fun but like most things in a game it is just art direction unless it is tied into the gameplay somehow like the blood (or probally meat juices) in super meat boy or splatter house or what ever it is called.
So ye blood is not a preference it is just the game.

I like a level around what Perfect Dark did: blood splatters onto walls behind people who get shot and pools on the floor, as well as patches where you shot someone, but I'm not really into dismemberment. Only exception to the dismemberment part is Team Fortress 2, just because "Your pancreas!" is one of the things that can go flying. And anyway, only explosions in that cause ludicrous amounts of gore.

Well Escapist, how gory do you like your games?!
Me? I prefer it slightly more then what´s realistic. It gives you that extra feeling of satisfaction, you know?
I couldn't agree more

Realistic, but I want weapons that if they were real, would make stupendous amounts of gore, rendering my decision mute.

It's like this, games and especially the ones violent or gory ones have to make you feel like a god, feared, etc. They do this by having your actions (the cause) damage the opponent/cheese/monster (the effect). In reality, if you take an axe and slam it into soft fleshy bodies you would see blood and guts, so the games try to replicate that and have zombies dropping bucketloads of blood. If you didn't see anything happen, then it feels like if you didn't do anything; hence making you feel weak and not like an all powerful deity.

I like realistic type gore for the game. Like God of War, hes fucking swinging around axes attached to chains. If you get hit with that, limbs and blood and everything is gonna start flying. However, if you get shot, i expect some blood spatter, but not much more.

Ahh, anyone remember how gory serious sam was?

Slightly more...this makes it feel like a game as opposed to reality while not being laughably over-the-top like some anime.

In other words, I want to escape with my game..not be reminded of the horrors of reality...but still have something hinging on reality.

In games, I reckon TF2's got it at the perfect level. Morrowind is too little and Serious Sam is too much.
In anime, it depends on whether you're Bokusatsu Tenshi Dokuro-chan (doing it right) or Highschool of the Dead (doing it wrong).
In movies, realistic. Derp.

Realism all the way. Except when the game assumes campy qualities. In Kill Bill i loved the blood sprays. It depends on the tone of the game.

I absolutely love gore.

I don't know why to be honest, but it just makes the game more enjoyable for me. :3

Gore is a bit like ketchup. You can have lots, you can have little, but it's not very satisfying on it's own.
