I'm in the middle of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire as you read this. As I write this I'm only a fourth in, but I'm really enjoying it and I'm home from work 'cause of sickness so I've got lots of time to read.

So tell me, friends: How experienced are you, Harry-wise? Me, I've seen some movies and read some books, and when I've read a book I watch the movie.

As you can see, the poll assumes that you're done with Harry because you either finished it all, gave up in the middle, or never tried to start with. Option #2 is for those of you who aren't done yet.

Also, could you not quote the OP unless there's some specific thing you want to adress? It's a pet peeve of mine, people quoting the OP to make it clear who they're talking to even though we all assume you're talking to the OP unless you specify otherwise.

I've read all of the books. I even went to midnight releases for a couple of them, embarrassingly enough.

I've seen all of the films with the exception of the last one. I can't remember if I've seen that or not. Maybe I have but it wasn't very memorable.

All of them, repeatedly.

However, apparently, different versions of the movies are shown in different parts of the world. I'm led to believe there's a scene between Dudley and Harry in 7-1 in the US that isn't in the one I've seen, for example.

Read all the books. Stopped enjoying them around book 5 but I kept reading them because A: I read them to my sisters and B: after 4 books, regardless of my enjoyment I wanted to know what was going to happen.

Gave up on the movies after number 4 as I never liked them that much even when I was a Harry Potter fan and the movies did what i belived was impossible , they made Ron weasley even more inoying than he was in the books.

You've made me curious. How did you like the earlier books? Did they get better after each book? Or worse? Or did the quality stay consistent?

I read up to Chamber Of Secrets, but never even finished that book. I think I got half-way through before I got bored. For the movies, I made watched The Order of the Phoenix and lost interest after that movie. The Goblet of Fire was a pretty baller movie and Order just couldn't deliver.

I enjoyed 1-3. 4 was ok. I arrived a little late to HP. By the time I started 3 was already out so I was able to read them all in one go. 4 came out about a month later and I liked it but not as much as the first 3 I think. My memory is a little fuzzy tbh as I was 10 at the time and as that was 14 years ago I honestly cannot tell you for sure how I felt. I do remember that when 5 came out (I was around 13 at this point) I remember noticing problems both with the plot and the characters that I did not notice before.

Personaly from my point of view the first three each improved on the last. I don't think they are very good books but I don't think they are that bad either. However I definitely think that 4 was a big step down, 5 and 6 were just simply bad (did anything actually happen in 6 beofre the last few chapters?) and 7 was just a long camping holiday followed by a big fight which felt a little weak as an ending.

Edit: I just realised that you have not read past number 4, I hope that nothing I have said can be considered a spoiler. If so You have my sincerest apologies. I don't think I have ruined anything.

I would say I read all of them, but I actually only made it to the Half-Blood Prince. Does that count? Though I read them when I was a younger lad so I...really can't recall much about them at all, in the terms of finer plot details.

I watched a couple of the movies, but remember pretty much nothing about them as well.

Read all the books. Felt they peaked mid-way through, and that the last book was the weakest of the series by a long shot. Rowling is a deft hand at whimsy but struggled a bit with drama.

Watched all the films. Felt they started terribly, and only really rounded into form for the last 2-3. The films, oddly, handled the dramatic elements of Rowling's work better than the books did, but absolutely shat the bed when it came to virtually everything else.

Really strong casting for the most part, though. Alan Rickman was a better Snape than the actual Snape.

I've read all the books including Quidditch Through the Ages, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them and The Tales of Beedle the Bard, and have watched all the films except for Half Blood Prince which I just couldn't finish. The amount of Twilight induced teen romance is sickening and the DP ought to be shot for how washed out and dark looking the film is. IMO it's the worst film of the series followed by OOTP and GOF.

The best films are PS,POA, DH1, COS and DH2. As for the books I'd say the first four are the best. OOTP is a bloated mess, HBP is just a set up for DH which doesn't really pay off.

I read all the books but watching all of the films? Not so much.

All of the books came out before I went to university and since I no longer lived in the town I was in during Uni (parent move places), I can no longer rented out the films.

Also I didn't cared to watch it at the cinema either and while it has appear in TV, I don't have full access to tv per say (parent watched on it most of the time) and most of the time it appear during Christmas which there are other better films on or rather that my cousin want to watched (my cousin is more of watching sport in the pub than an actual gamer or geek).

I read all of the books the month after the last one came out. As for the movies, I haven't seen any of them. What little I HAVE seen didn't impress me all that much.

I read all the books, enjoyed them but was never the hugest of fans.

I think I've seen all movies, on TV if nothing else, but I care much less about them. I was always a fan of the depiction of everyday life, and you have to cut most of that off for a movie.

Read them as they came out, saw them all as they came out, still annoyed at the changes made in Prisoner of Azkaban's film adaptation (especially with regards to set and costume design. It made it feel more like a different adaptation than a new installment in the same adaptation)

I still haven't read the last book or seen the 2nd to last movie (yes the 2nd to last, I saw the last one with a friend). I should probably finish the book at some point just for completeness's sake.

Oh, you meant that kind of DP. I totally knew what that was. Yep, that's certainly a thing I knew.

I read up to half blood prince, but never finished it. I'm not much of a movie watcher so I've only caught bits and pieces here and there.
