Generally i read the OP and a couple of random posts down the line on the way to the comment box. That's if i already know what my response will be to the topic and it isn't necessarily a debate - otherwise, i take the time to generally read through a lot of comments on various pages. Not necessarily to weigh others' opinions against my own, but to look for people to quote to either contest their opinion or use it to back up my own.

I'm in the short-threads category, myself. If I'm going to say something, I want to contribute, that is to say something that hasn't already been covered, and frankly, I'm to lazy to parse through more than three or four pages of commentary, so with the fifth page, I assume someone has already said what I would have added.

Oh, and I'll reply to those who have addressed my posts, regardless of thread length, but I won't generally comment on anything new.

And it's a personal pet peeve when others repeat a question I answered, or restate an assumption that I've already called as in dispute (unless they challenge my logic or basis). I've begun to assume that long threads will start reiterating, as new people come in but don't read the whole thing.

Usually I read OP and first page.

If the topic is actually interesting or concerns stuff that I particularly like then I'll read everything.

If it's one of those threads that only results in answers rather than discussion ("Awesome guns in games?" "Favourite character?" etc) then I generally don't bother.

For this thread I read the OP and first reply, then posted. Then I went back and read the rest because it seemed appropriate.
